Thats what my first thought was too, but they look really odd compared to any that I have, I am wondering if maybe they are a specialty set for a certian application? Jim

 

Piston ring spreaders....I think they're just overly complicated, and the 'handles' don't look too comfortable.

 

The opening looks kind of big to be spreaders. Maybe a ring groove cleaner?
