My youngest daughter is going to be 14 in less than a month..... Heres her backing me up at Bristol.

    Also works on it....

And last wk it was cold at a local track.....She rode back from a run in the car.... Then had a nap while soaking up some heat from inside the cockpit...... Hah!!

Here's my little buddy, my grandson. Working on him, we went by the dirt track the other day (I took him when he was 3 yrs old) and he asked me when we can go back. Love that kid.

Good luck Dad. I had my first 3 yrs ago. Can't wait to show her how to drive a 31 coupe. It's the coolest thing you will ever do. Enjoy it.

Here's my boy about 3 1/2 now. Always loves what Im doing. He'll ask me "Daddy I be a biker" and that means he wants to ride around the block on the bike. Or, he'll say "Daddy, rat roddin" and that means he wants to go for a ride in the car. He's a hell of a tire washer.

Great title on this thread. Yes being a dad is Cool. I had two little girls that spent time with me in the shop and going to car events when they were little. Now they are grown and I have two little grandsons that I get to hang out with. My oldest daughter writes a blog and posted the following article a couple months ago. Makes an old man proud :)

My son had interest and ambitions to get into cars; he was working on fixing up his daily driver (Honda) when he passed away. Daughter likes to help work on cars, too. At 17, she insisted that after watching me do one side, she be allowed to do the other side on the front brakes. She did them, too.

Since these two Hemi's are the early style, I feel they are not OT.....

great thread. I am sorry for anyone who has lost a child. It was weird until he was 2 I felt like he could have been taken away from me any minute was always worried.
They've been to lonestar, greaserama, hamb drags, pistons n paint and more. I've gotten to where I'd much rather take them then go by myself. yeah its more as work but they love it. I think my little one would be mad if I didn't take him.
Last week 3 year old said "I want to wear my hot rod shirt to school". His mom came back with a blue shirt with an indy car. He said "no mom my hot rod shirt. Its black." thats my boy

Here's a picture of my son and I test driving my truck with the new transmission:

I know this one is an OT car, but I still like it:

It's my Dad's Vette, so it turned out to be a father and son, and father and son, and grandfather and grandson day.

I've got a good picture of my daughter in my DD, but I figure I'm pushing my luck with the Vette picture as it is.

and here he is about 25 years later taking his turn at the wheel (driving the same 40 he was leaning on in picture one) on our trip to Bowling Green for the hot rod reunion last June.

Not to detract from my other kids,
but our middle son Jakob surprised me over the weekend.

Yeah I know no gloves :/
Got lucky but he was really cautious anyway.
Probably starting him late as he's only 11!

Meanwhile the oldest is just finishing a stingray restoration.

and the other day he helped pop some valves out of a flathead.

and before that he helped muscle the 302 in the 40.

Not bad for a 12 year old.
I'm really lucky they both have fun tinkering with stuff.

Our girl is going to be the terror.
She loves going fast in the hot rods.
    Trouble!

I have a 5yo, curious as can be. So tonight I took him to the shop to help with an o/t wood project, thinking what's the worst that could happen? He gets bored instantly, so I give him a project cleaning up the workbench. Putting nuts n bolts and whatever in a container. The kid finds a threaded brass adapter, the inside the size of his middle finger, slides it past his knuckle somehow. A couple hours later, with a dremel, and some care, and cutoff wheel, we got it off. Funny now, but almost had to make a trip to an emergency room. Where, I'm sure, they would have cut it off with a dremel....

Sounds like the brass adapter made an excellent ring.

This thread popped up again to the top of the forum, and I remember posting this a while back. I really did enjoy reading this thread and I truly appreciate all the kind words. We all have a tough outer shell, but we are all softies on the inside. Thank you for that.

So it's been a while and I have something to contribute. I am not getting just 1 helper, I am getting 3!

  30. A lot of GMB's know this guy... my oldest, Michael.
He's surprisingly into cars- in fact he wrote me a note (while he was at school) saying he wants to bring his grades up so we can hit the Detroit Dragway Reunion again next year! First time he's ever done anything like that! (We'd go anyway, but I appreciate his effort. :) )

Here he is at last years Reunion...
