  17. Nothing like that on the streets of the fifties in my neighborhood. In the sixties there were a few bubbletop showcars.

  18. Why the hell is the motor on the purple one so high?

They are wild 60's style creations (or recreations) and examples of some cutting edge car culture that existed during that time. I think it's called creativity which has always been traditional. Whatever melts your butter.;)

I think we're all well aware nobody agrees on nomenclature. But here are my definitions.

Traditional Rod - hot rod built with the materials, techniques, and aesthetic common in the '40s, '50s, and '60s.

Period Rod - hot rod built with the materials and techniques available in a given timeframe

Nostalgia Rod - hot rod built to evoke a particular period regardless of tradition or period correctness

Retro Rod - hot rod built to evoke a particular period with some regard to tradition and period correctness, but a willingness to exaggerate for the sake of an aesthetic point

I'd say these are '60s retro rods.

    I agree!

I would call them Fancy Rat Rods that someone spent over $25000.00 each of them.

Dare I say it: they are the rodent-rods of their era. Much prettier than today's things, but basically the same concept: shock value cars that weren't built with much safety in mind.

I don't agree with that statement at all. So, in your history book, Ed Roth built rat rods?
