CHEVROLET Sedan Deliveries were built, ***led, and licensed as TRUCKS. THAT is the reason you WILL NOT find them in the old P***ENGER car brochures, only the TRUCK brochures. I have three Chevrolet Sedan Deliveries, 2 56's and a 57. I'm sure different states handle things differently as far as ***les, registrations, and licenses go, but all they want is your money, and don't really care what they really are. I agree with the "it's a car". Sedan deliveries are mounted on a car frame and a panel is a truck. When you buy frontend sheet metal or ch***is parts you will use car parts. My 48 Chevy panel needs truck parts.

But I can't stop laughing!~:D:D Why worry the DMV will put whatever they want on the ***le!

Our daughter bought a new Ford SUV and called it a truck. I asked "where's the bed?" Ask the DMV "where's the truck bed?" They never did know a sedan delivery from a Model A coupe!

Before you get ****y with me, open the barn doors of my panel truck and look at the wood floored truck bed with inner fenders.

We had both in our Fire Department. The sedan deliveries were sent out to a custom Ambulance Body Builder (Cotner-Bevington) for a ambulance body conversion. The Panels were used as light Rescue Units and came with the 235 engine sprayer engines. Both were separate and distinct vehicles. The sedan units had an independent front suspension and he panels came with straight axles. The sedans had a Power Glide transmission and the panels had a creeper low four on the floor. Both provided good longevity to the fire fleet.

Mine is registered as a Commercial, its not a wagon but not a truck.
The rego is more than a wagon but less than a truck.

  8. FWIW, in NY you can register a pickup with commercial plates or regular car plates, either way. I've never seen a delivery registration to know what the code is, but for instance a Suburban body is a Suburban body - it can be a Vega station wagon, or a cutaway van with a bus body, and it shows as Suburban up to a certain size on the ***le or registration - the size being fairly large. (it's also possible the smaller busses can be registered either way, as bus or as Suburban). NY even used to have special Suburban plates. And if you're starting from no paperwork, you can tell them anything you want, since most of them don't have any body info in the VIN or serial number. Even if they checked I'm not sure most current DMV folks would know to care.

If you really want to get technical, though, a sedan delivery is a station wagon with the rear windows blanked out. Unless you get one of the ones they put windows in (some 1956-1957 Chevys were done this way).
