  1. I would like to figure out some sort of filter for them though. Anyone have any ideas?

I see people running the copper pot scrubbers as elements quite often? I
Don't know how legit that is or how sturdy against throwing shit down the carb they are but it'd be easy to make.

Or have your ol' lady knit ya some covers to run while driving. Maybe put a puff ball on the top for the cooler fall months ;)

  4. That is one of the things I was thinking. Seems like it would be similar to the matrix that is in the old oil bath air cleaners? I would think if you oiled it a little it would catch some stuff.

    I like this, ha!

    Wagging in the wind haha

I don't care who you are- that's some funny shit right there.

Nice job getting the perspective right Tim.

  9. Well, I got some seat time Friday night and man what a hoot! Much more fun with all three carbs working properly!

I'm ready to line up with you next year Jay. Maybe I can break 19 sec. now, ha!

Congrats on the 3 carbs working! i'm at odds with just one haha. depends on the day it'll either idle just dandy and run smooth and the next like its full of shit only for it to be fine the next morning.

sounding like i need to take it off and clean it all out but with my official first drive this afternoon I think pulling the carb will be a little lower on my list of things to do right now ;)

Inspired by my favorite truck on the hamb I bolted a bunch of my extra 34 parts together. I was supposed to be cleaning my garage for my 40th bday party and got distracted. Anyone need a good start?

Mike that is an absolutely great ride you built. I stumbled onto your thread by accident. Well after two days of reading I just had to congratulate you.
A few notes as I remember. The issue of the accelerator pump, it seems that you have resolved the issue, but here goes anyway. The pump assembly on the Rochester 2 bbl is usually made of viton or some similar material. But the older design was leather. The purple pump seal is used exactly the same way as the viton one is used, and in exactly the same location. To use the leather seal, you would need to remove the viton seal from the assembly, and force the leather seal on in its place. The spring must be removed, and then the viton pulled over the raised center of the plunger base. Then the leather goes back in its place, followed by the spring. The problem is that some of the later design pump plungers would never have the ability to allow you to replace just the seal. You would have to first get the viton off. If it can come off, usually the new leather one will go on.
The fuel lines you fabricated for the trips look exactly like the factory fuel lines used on the tri power Corvettes from 67 on. ( Again, NICE work)
I think I noticed that you used a spin on conversion for the oil filter. You appear to have good clearance under the filter, so I will offer this suggestion. If your new filter is a standard 70s Chevy filter, there is a deeper 2 qt filter that was used on series 50 and 60 big block trucks. The Fram # is Ph373.
I vote for a deep metalic maroon color. (As if you care what I think)
And I have always loved the look of the 58-60 Apache step side fenders. If you do use rears, I thing they would look great in a contrasting color. Deep charcoal grey metalic.

man, i can just see a version of your truck a chunk lower with a quad 4 dressed up offy style with a 5 speed, run 4 exhaust tips together out the back....hmmm this HAMB place is dangerous haha

  17. Sorry from being absent from this thread for so long. Bob, thank you for the praise and the insight into my carb issues. Right now things seem to be pretty good other than the occasional sticky float.

Timmer, it's funny that you should say this as I have been thinking heavily about another build ('30-'31 'A' Tudor specifically ) with some ,ahem, modern amenities to use as our new commuter car.

Some big schtuff going on around here as in the last couple of months we have purchased some new property and home and have been frantically busy getting ours on the market and moving into the new place. It has been a whirlwind of activity to say the least! Not much has changed with the truck but I did take a few pics late in the year. If you follow me on Instagram (@cactus1) then this is all old news. Pics to follow...

luv the photos, where is that plane at? I'm become a bit more fascinated with old War planes lately. Wonder how many really exist. luv the truck too.

  23. Thanks TFoch!

    Yessir!

Thanks man. That plane was installed in KC down on SW Blvd back in September. It is a mascot of sorts for a local coffee place called the Roasterie.
