So for a few years now I have been battling the home owners association where I live, for some reason they don’t want you working on cars in the garage and having any “non-op” cars in the driveway, coupled with the fact that my driveway and street was so damn steep, my latest build never really saw the light of day. This past week I finally got moved into my new (old) house and I was able to roll my car out of the garage (without using my wench) and was able to take a look at the stance and take a couple photos. Up until now it was tucked away in the single stall of my garage and surrounded by clutter.. now after seeing it in the light of day it has sparked some new interest and now I really want to drive it… enjoy!
looking good. if I lived in a place with a homeowners association that dicked with me I'd be tempted to paint my house lime green with purple polkadots. then plant flowers in old toilets and put them around the yard.
I like your car....but I should remind you that the rules (Conditions, Covenants and Restrictions) about which you complain were (by law) provided to you when you moved in and you were (by law) required to sign that you had read them. There should be NO surprises about this. My house in Las Vegas is in a gated community - I scanned the CC&Rs when we bought our house. Not quite as restrictive as yours, but pretty stern. I just abide by them, and there's no problem. People whine about HOAs, but as long as the BofD is fair and comprised of other owners, there shouldn't be much conflict with the rules. They (HOA regs) actually enhance values as most people looking for homes don't want to see 15yr old Camaros up on jackstands in the driveway, or big oil stains, or 40ft motorhomes parked along the street. A well-run HOA is a big selling point for some buyers (I used to own an appraisal company, and have been an appraiser for over 25 years, so I'm not just pulling this out of my patootie).
Nice car, also agree with propwash. Same rules in my hood so I make sure my garage has enough room to put everything back in it after I am done for the day. Anyway, love the car, glad you can work on it now!!
I had the same problem when I lived in a condo in Baldwin Park. Now that you have the space, DONT GET CAUGHT UP Like Me.
I understand how you feel about your neighbors bitching about you working on your cars, and for the first part of my life I was one of the inconsiderates who didn't get why my neighbors were always calling the cops and code enforcement on me either. But as you mature you start to respect other people's rights to also live their lives in peace and also to not have a bunch of jacked up or inop cars strewn around a neighborhood they pay dearly for. These days I won't even bring my roadster home with the headers uncapped because I wouldn't want someone doing that to me if I was trying to relax in my home. We have to always try to think of the other people around us and respect their rights too. Nice little coupe BTW. Don
"I was able to roll my car out of the garage (without using my wench)" HOA means nothing to me. I am wondering whats up with the wench ? What, was she slacking off again? Straighten up Brother ! Handle it !!!!... Dale Cleveland OH
i do understand the rules of the HOA, i was smart enough to not get busted more than once about the cars, i only parked them out side once, meanwhile the guy nextdoor has a mid 90's benz with flat tires sitting on his driveway since i moved in. the things i got busted for was a 1'x1' patch of dead drass next to my driveway and my son got busted for a water bottle sitting on his window ledge, the prez of the HOA lives across the steet.. they'll all be laughing as soon as they find out how cheap we let that house go..
man id like to have that little car! i love the way it sits. as far as hoa,you knew it was in place when you bought it. i live in the country.kinda far out.closet town is about 2000 people. big one aint it.lol... we dont have any kinda of building restrictions here. i can build what i want where i want.i can park as many cars in my yard as i want.but when you live like this there is a draw back . my neighbor who lives close is a pig. lives in a run down singlew ide trailer. and cars scattered all in his yard, along with all kinds of other junk. looks bad. i put up a wood privacy fence so people dont think his is part of mine.we have a few cars here. park all nice and neat.keep the yard cut and picked up. no parts of cars or motorcycles laying around.we have a few out buildings to keep our shit in instead of the shops.we had our propery appraised. it was lower than i thought it should be.when i asked them about it hes words were your neighbors propery hurt your . took off a few thousand because of his place.now i kinda wish we did have some kinda rules.!! anyway ,like the car!!!
nice car! thats why ill take my two acres surrounded by cornfields. dont get to much bitchin out of the deer and turkeys!
Southern Californina h.o.a rules are crazy. no matter what city, they want to control everything and charge you $200-$500 a month for it.
Nice looking coupe. I like to see older hot rods sitting high. My HOA is okay. When my parents first bought this house, there was no HOA. People just cared about what their property looked like. All the lawns were nice and no non-op cars in the front lawn. About 15 years ago it all went to shit, so they started a HOA. My problem is they don't enforce the laws fairly. Some people get a pass on hillbilly shit. Cars and trucks parked on the front lawn. Bar-B-Queing in the front yard and just plain rude behavior. When they work correctly, a HOA is a good thing. It keeps out the people who don't understand what being a good neighbor is.
My girlfriends former house in the south part of town was in a H.O.A. I used to occasionally spend the night down there, and always have driven my Plymouth. Several times I would walk out to my car in the morning and have a fake ticket on my windshield for "leaving a non-op car on the street". I let this go awhile, then I went to the head Nazis home and "disscussed" the situation for a bit... He was a scared little power hungry freak before that, I believe he is even more scared now.
Dam Houligans! There goes the nieghborhood!!! Purchased our place alittle over 4 years ago. Almost 10 acres outside the city limits by about 1 mile. When we bought the place there was a great body shop across the highway and now a fellow Hamb'r has openned a Mech/custom shop to the west of us. All is good at "Hot Rod" corner here in the flat land. Keep up the good work on the coupe, now that you can breath.
they build the up-scale homes on top of the garage on a postage stamp sized lot and then they charge you 3/4 of a million bucks for it.
I bought a house about ten years ago and was NEVER given any heads-up about the HOA untill about three years after settelment. So for no problems, it says "no working on cars" or something like that. Also says no trailers, motorhomes etc.. but many homes have trailers and some have motorhomes. so for the most part None of the rules are enforced, GOOD! Don't know what I would do if one day they would start harrassing me about the car thing, guess I would have to find a lawyer and go after the selling agent for non-disclosure.?????
Yeah, propwash telling you "oh you knew the rules when you moved in ...blah blah blah....", sounds like the type of guy that *gets* ppl busted (and likely has in the past, seeing his defense of HOA bullsh*t) and gets jollies off of it. HOA rules are there to be used as a bludgeon against certain "unfavorables" by prudes who get off on power trips about you not having your grass within 1/8" of spec. While they may have been legit at one time, but no longer. I have family who has to deal with this mess, rules only apply to those who don't "take a knee" if you get my drift. I want to ask them if they feel all powerful because they're the "grass police". I fully support your efforts of house value pillaging against douches like that. "How much is that yard worth now that I short-sold that b*tch?!?!?" LOL. BEAUTIFUL. Your car looks great, man.....like a lot of fun. Hopefully I'll have mine together someday soon. Keep posting!
We have an informal HOA in my nieghborhood. Basically it works like this. I dont rat my neighbours out to the city for thier code violations, and they dont rat me out for mine. Thats about the ONLY kind of HOA I ever want to have any part of...
I do not belong to an HOA, but they are finishing up a set of cookie cutter houses with no yards directly across the street.....went for $850k and more each. They have HOA fees and restrictions, but still have to look out their windows watching me wrench on my old cars. I try to be respectful, but our parking has already affected by the new homes and will get worse! I could not handle living under an HOA! But good for you, car looks great!
If your neighbors are good, you do what you can. If your neighbors are bad, who cares? It's not "bad ass"....it dishing out some karma on jerks.
So, selling your house at a loss makes you out as the winner? Where's the karma in that? I can understand making a statement when moving, but doing so at a financial loss is counter productive. I mean, you move and at a loss. How would that hurt the HOA's feelings or karma? If I were him, I would have taken pics of the broken Benz for the HOA sit down. That's proactive. Karma doesn't even apply.
First thing, the OP is the one who was expressing feeling somewhat better about how the HOA jerks would feel once they figured out how cheaply he sold his house. Second, I was voicing my support for his actions. If they want to be property Nazis about him and not about others who are blatantly breaking the rules, yet harassing him, they deserve the dip in their property values. Third, you don't gun to sell it cheap....you obviously sell it for what you can, but you don't go out of your way to do anybody any favors. You don't have to go put your boot on someone's throat, but when their throat happens to find their way under your boot, go ahead and stomp it. That's my point, and that's why I was supporting the OP. He's out of his HOA, and he screwed them over....kudos to him.
