well... just a little update. last weekend I got my new quarter panel on... There are a couple small areas in the drivers side quarter I have to address, a small patch in the cowl and then it's on to the floors... I threw in the picture of the car flying because not many people have pictures of their cars 13 feet off the ground.

I coulda picked a better body to try and save, but this is the only car that GM put the experimental "easy glide hover booster" package on.

Gonna be a fine ride!! Ponchos are cool. Especially the 61-64s with eight bolt wheels and tri-power!

I bet having the Poncho airlifted cost a small fortune ... wish I had me one of those. Cranes that is. Seriously though, nice ride, anda good save.

actualy when I came to pick the car up at the yard, they had it sitting out front already hooked to the crane. It was really strange, because I had never seen it out of it's spot before (up to it's axle in the ground). I had no idea they had a crane and were going to lift it for us. We brought back up and winches and come-alongs and everything in anticipation for an epic unearthing battle. But it was simple enough, we pulled the trailer around and they lifted it, drove it about 10 feet forward and we guided it right down into place. total of 5 minutes.

That's where I got mine. They told me it was an 60's aftermarket replacement. The fit was dead on. Though if you are looking for the fins, the quarter panel only has one fin on it, the trunk surround has the other fin and the valley section. So it's a two part deal....

By the way they sell for REASONABLE prices, not inflated specialty prices and their customer service is top knotch. Not to mention who ever they have packaging their stuff is a genius. 50 inches of nearly flat steel without a single dent or ripple. All without adding excessive shipping weight.

my buddy has 3 of them 59 Ponchos.

One Catalina Convertable, a Catalina Post and a Starfire Post.

Those look great w/ Bonnie taillights too.

I can put you in touch with him if you are needing parts. He has a boat load of them.

  18. Star Chief post is the rarest '59 body style - and of course the one I like best. Is his the grey one I saw on eBay 4 or 5 years ago?

I don't like this body style with a post. They made the roof way too tall on the post bodies. If I had one, I'd have to chop it to the fit the hardtop/convertible windshields.

You need to come see it! I am rolling the beads in the new floor today and hopefully putting it in... After that it's, on to the trunk floor. Then the fun stuff begins!

If you can roll by tonight (unlikely I'm sure), or tomorrow sometime I can do that spot on your truck.
