I have pictures of my 47 on another thread and asked people about a new grill maybe an early Vette floater anyone willing to try different grills.. thanks Kelly
Kelly, your grill looks as if it has been flipped? Looks like a '50/'51 Merc grill backwards? I would just flip it back, if it is. Kool Kustom! HC.
I like the Vette, it suits the funky canted quads! Would like to see the buick with out the emblem though..
lose the briz bumpers. the vette grill def looks better than whats in there now. you can always make a knob or bullet grill out with some expanded metal(that matches the headlight background) if you cant find something that fits in there nice.
I dont think you should drop the front. I would, however, get some skinnier wheels in the front to narrow the track width a bit. Early 50s chevy wheels are a good width and are good looking wheels anyways. I would also run some full caps, maybe 55 buicks with the spinners? Lots of guys ran those back then, but not as much anymore. I think the vette grille is the better option of those two.
Maroon is one of my favorite car colors. Would look good. Drawer pull grill could work but I think part of the problem lies with all the sheet metal that you have between the bottom lip of the hood and the top of the grill. These style of cars seem to look best with some sort grill that is longer at the bottom and shortens up up towards the top. Or find a old Chyrsler 300 grille and put it in there. That would mimick the cant of the headlights. But if you don't want to have to rework the opening just go with a simple tooth grill or even a floating single bar.
Try posting your pics in this thread, you'll get more action there. http://jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=300531&highlight=photoshop+thread+to+end+all I kinda like the grille that's in it, it fits the period for canted quads. I think what's holding it back is the paint job and some of the other details, it's kind of a mash of different periods and styles the way it sits. But certainly has potential.
Love the car. Something about canted quad headlights that does it for me. I think mesh with bullets would be cool. I agree with the bumper i think it needs to go.
I think of a tube grille and 49` Plymouth ribbed bumper and some smaller wheels with Fiesta caps and loosing the exhaustoutlets in the hood.
Here are pics I found here on the h.a.m.b. taken on the east coast when it was much fresher...Its in my shop getting a redo right now.....Im drivin the wheels off the sum***** when I get it done....
I have decided to go with a 1964 Wildcat grill floating with a bullet center ...The car has red interior ..I was thinking either satin copper or maroon ..What other colors would look good with the red interior?? p.s. whats all the dislike about the bumpers???
