I received a call from a friend who has owned a 1960 Merc (4 door) for over 20 years. He asked me if I am interested in buying it before he puts her online for the general public to buy. I never really put much thought into the 1960-63 Mercs... Car is super clean, small V8, no air and 4 door. yellow/black CA plates and a daily driver. Looking for anyone out there that owns or owned one for feedback.... I can get this for a very, very low price (friend deal). Let me know if there are any draw backs to this year or other info I should know of. .
just went a googled to see what they look like. big ol' boat and all your friends will want you to drive, but none of your friends will pitch in for gas. even worse with a 4 door. I like big fun cars like that.
There's one here on the Island thats totally bad ass! Black with a gold metal flake roof and lowered. It was in a mag (can't remember which one) a few months back. Not sure if anyone here saw it.
There are a few '60 Mercs sprinkled in this thread..........E http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=362221&highlight=1960+merc
Didnt Erikson do one? If i remember right it was pearl white with blue panels. bad as nails. 60 Mercs are huge cars, but sleek as hell too. Is it a hardtop or a sedan?
Do you know what make it is. In 60 there was full size cars to small cars made by merc. I have a 60 montery 4 door and I love it. A friend of mine just got a 4 door parklane/with fact- AC. Very rare. Here's my thread. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=645268&highlight=1960+merc What more do you want to know about it. Other then get it get it now. Or let me get it for your price.
talked to the seller - it's a 4 door Monterey, no AC, 312 V8. - Going to check it out this coming weekend. Keep the feedback coming. Thanks.
In 1961, there was a beautiful mild custom 60 Merc roaming the streets of Lewiston, ID. It was a 2dr hdtp, and as big a boat as one could imagine, but had an A+ coolness factor.
I had a 60 Merc years ago with a 4 door body, 292 V8 w/2 barrel, and three on the tree....this car was good on gas (for what it was), rode very nice, and was super reliable....I say go for it !...you'll dig it !
I don't know what this question means. Should you buy it? Of course not, it's a 42 year old second hand car, no safety features, no emission controls, and a gas hog to boot. Ask any of your square friends, they will tell you. If you have to ask if you should buy it, don't buy it. Only buy an old car if you really want it. When the right one comes along you won't have to ask.
I drove my mothers new 63, it was the worst car I ever drove the steering was so touchy it never cut out at any speed and the heavy car was so under powered it was dangerous. JMHO
If you look on the list of HAMB Merc members on my thread you can see the names of all the members who joined who own '60 Mercurys.
The '60 full-size Merc's were basically a one-year-only body style. The rear window & rear quarter styling are very cool. Starting in ' 61 they got into the "formal" squared-off styling trend...with the "Breezway" slide-down, retractable rear window. There was a '60 2dr Sedan here a few years ago, and I saw a super-cool '60 Hd Tp. in Salina one year. BUT, they ARE big...and the 4dr. is not the most desirable. It's your call...but, if you have to think about it, you may be in trouble already. Either you like it or you don't. Whatever you decide, I wish you the best. Jonnie www.legends.thewwbc.net
I bought one at Hot August Nights in a few years back. Drove it to Bakersfield on down the backroads. Drove like a big ole boat should. I liked it, neat curved back window and funky taillights. Didn't keep it long shipped it off to S. Sweden. They are unique you dont see many of them.
Im sorry I ment that Chopt49. He said he was going to see it this pasted weekend. But your was hella nice. Thats perdy.
Only good for donating their grilles to '59 Chevys, and the rearends to hot rods. Engine might be nice too.
