Can anyone tell me the bolt size that holds the motor mounts to the block (4 of them) on a 265 engine? Mine are not there. :)

    Thanks

  2. i'm thinking 3/8"-16

    That's right. 3/8" U.S.S.

Be careful with the one on the passenger side that intersects the fuel pump push rod. If too long, it will seat right into the ol' push rod...

    Might crack the block casting
May just jam the pushrod, and you'll 'run out of gas' at the carburetor.

X2 and you do have to put a short one in the passenger side mounts so the fuel pump rod does not hit.

I received my Hurst mount and bought 4ea 3/8 x 1" bolts...they are to long.
    I'm thinking 3/4" or shorter.
I will also need spacers on the back side of the mount between the block.

My question.....that's not a whole bunch of threads holding that mount on?

The torque is trying to turn the motor over, not move to and fro, also I believe (never had one)the rear mounts were wider like the early Olds to keep the torque in check.

Why do you need spacers? If so the 1" bolts should work and thats plenty of thread, as was said before they are not trying to be pulled out they are in shear and that is what was original from Chevrolet ftom 55-57. Also make sure you use lock washers.

general rule is to have at least the size of the bolt threaded in

  11. i just tried a 3/4" long bolt in a 283 block and it bottomed out with about slightly less than1/4" left to go. with your mount about 1/4" thick and a lock washer you would have about 1/2" in the block. if you add a spacer you would need a longer bolt

  12. The Hurst mount should have 5/16 spacers where it meets the block and 1" bolts should be perfect.

porknbeaner.....yes, I'll need spacers to clear the fuel pump mount on the block and a 1" bolt w/lock washer should do it.

    thanks all.:)
