Hey Hambers....so I have a 59 chevy 235 out off a el camino lined up..its a good running motor and its cheap as hell..I need a motor for my 54 bel air ..So I know that it will bolt right in after I modify my 54 side mounts since the 58-62 motor side mount holes are different. My question is if all my original 54 carb linkage ,6 v generator, distributor, starter ,3 speed manual trans is plug and play..Trying to get this motor home tomorrow morning. Thanks
Use the orignal bellhousing and everything otherwise should work EXCEPT the waterpump. The later engine mounts the pump lower and is longer causing fan issues. They make an adapter to use the 54 style WP on the later engine I know. That after the monts will be your biggest problem.
Thanks John..any ideas as to were to get that mount? Also so as far as the mounts are concerned.. I read that all I have to do is modify the bolt pattern on my original mounts is that true you think. Well I hope its worth the headache because my 235 needs about 800 bucks of work on the bottom end plus its a solid lifter motor..Not sure what the 59s are
The 59 engine should be hydraulic lifters. The flywheel ring gear has a different number of teeth between a 6 volt and 12 volt starter.
Anyone know if those motor mounts are sold for this purpose? In other word 58-62 235 motor in a 52-54 bel air...i found kits for front mounted apps only. Anyone with experience on these blocks...my fab skills are not quite there for heavy fab. Im hoping i just have to drill new holes out on my original 54 motor mounts..feed back welcome!!
If you send Tom Langdon your '54 motor mounts, his son (Mike?) will adapt them for you. He can also answer any and all of your technical questions. His website is http://stoveboltengineco.com/
