Im gotta build me another car. I got a A frame, 28 Ford Cowl, & some parts. Thinking about a Woody, HomeBrewed style.

That is a very interesting question! Both are traditional, the 327 is one of the finest performance motors ever made and (in mt humgle opinion) the 324 is one of the finest running, smooth and attractive motors ever made. Your frame is set up for SBC and older Olds engines are a bit of a pain to mount sometimes. You are very lucky to have a choice between two of the best motors built.

  3. Can't really go wrong with either one- if you absolutely want speed, then use the 327, otherwise use the Olds for a little more "wow" factor

Chevy makes some versitile and potent small blocks ....I've had them and would never bad mouth the Chevy motor . Trouble is , virtually EVERYONE runs a Chevy in their Ford rods . When I look on Carsonline or similar sites , must be 90% sbc crate motors .
If it was my money , and it's not , I'd go with the Olds , so as not to be the same as everyone else . That being said , I prefer a Ford in a Ford but that's another story . :)

50/50 but that Olds engine looks so fuckin cool!!Only trouble with the olds is that sometimes the rockers suffers for oil a little.
Keep us posted on the build.

technically- the chevy is the better engine- look at how long it was produced, vs the olds engine. In my opinion, the chevy is the better engine. In my car the chevy is the better engine. If I ever built an early rod, The Olds would be my choice. It can run Hard, but will be a bit more expensive. The cool factor would be priceless. Drop 3 two's on it, and a 37 LaSalle box behind it, and have fun. My .02

100% correct! Weight dif is going to be around 200 pounds, a LOT to hang in the front of a Model A.
Chevy carefully detailed with period intake (lots of choice there, too), valve covers, proper wiring and detailing, could bring back a lot of the coolness points lost to the Olds.
Another factor...324 olds is really toodamnsmall in displacement to justify its weight, but can itself be built much larger or can be replaced with 394...as is, you are getting big block weight and small block displacement.

The OLDS has my vote --hands down. Never ran a sbc --never will --Might be a good motor--- but EVERYBODY has one-- might as well drive a 4 door grannies car as have a cookie cutter SBC!

I've had both and the difference between them is the Olds costs more, weighs a lot more and can't make the power on a similar budget. But the Olds is not as common and a 324 is a desirable piece for a hot rod.

SBC is definitely a good motor, but the OLDS will be cool. 4 banger will be cheaper to run, but really............!!!!!!?????

Just be damn well prepared with that SBC if you run against a Ross built Olds, or the Olds built by Dave's Auto Machine, in Dave50's coupe. ;) Those two guys got something up their sleeves:rolleyes:

If you go with Tony (Goatroper02) Ross Racing Engines you`ll have a olds that eats chevy`s no problem ,now there are alot of variables and you have to do it right like anything. Are they cheap No, either is a good steak! Or good work, And trust me if you think you can your wrong! Tony has put alot of time and money in his program. He also has stepped up to the plate and have made many Parts for the Olds as did other companys for the SBC. The only things up our sleeves is dirt from hard work! I would like to take all the credit for my olds motor but what I have I couldnt of done with out Tony! Thanks again Tony! The 303 runs good! I can build you whatever you want olds, caddy, chevy, ford its what we do.

So to answer your question it all depends on how uch you want to spend and where you want to find a motor on craiglsist or have a custom built engine for you and your needs.

    Well said!

  26. Niether is actually better they are just different. Both engines in the same condition will give you the same amount of enjoyment.

Choose one build it and enjoy it.

I agree...however, there are 20 different ways to make a 327 look cool, besides the fact that they are already pretty cool to begin with. PLUS, I don't think a true 327 ever gets the same reaction that a basic 350 does.

Sure, but if you do the same exact type of build with a 327 (probably for cheaper I might add) the Olds won't be able to touch it.
