I'm not into the diecast cars but I came across these and didn't realize they were making this style. I think they're neat. A little photo shop background trickery and you'd thing they are real. If this is not the place for this post let me know & its gone. Don
My Son is really into the die cast cars, but I haven't seen these. Where did you find them? His birthday is this week. Thanks, Kathy
Highway 61 Collectibles makes them. They are owned by Fred Ertl III. Very nice vehicles, I have the 1963 Pontiac Tempest Arnie "The Farmer" Beswick The Runabout. I also have his 1966 Pontiac GTO funny car. Both have drivetrains that move when the wheels move. the Tempest even has a glovebox that opens and side vents that move!!
I have seen these cars in person and they do look great! You should also check out their Hudson's. The detail is over the top. Very cool but fairly expensive ($40-$60). There is a place in Manchester, IA called Evers http://www.everstoystore.com/ and they have most everything HWY 61 offers in stock. Thay also have a good return policy. E-bay can be cheeper but as delicate as the HWY 61 cars are that return policy is good insurance. Carmak Iowa Out standing in my field!
Their 46 GMC flat bed with a detailed Gimmy 6 makes a cool display for them. The scale is different but I'll never tell. I was lucky and never got infected with the match box virus but these old time hot rods were too much for me to resist. It looks like I've got some catching up to do. They have some new ones out.
What scale are these cars? does Vintage Ford in Sacto carry them? I have a hotrod toy collection that these would look awesome in as well CAB
ElPly- I have a handful of die casts, but am not a hard-core collector by any means. I've seen the little dry lakes cars at several swap meets, etc. and they are very cool indeed. There are several variations, and I'd love to have 'em all. A bit pricey for my budget though - I try to stay in the $10 range, for the most part. I try to scour the toy departments at various Wal-Marts and other chain stores, as well as toy "outlet" stores. It's surprising what you can find if you keep looking. For instance, I got a Ford Thunderbolt at Target for $5 - with a $5 rebate! I usually check the swap meet vendors too, but they seem pretty hard to deal with. Well, one thing's sure - if you're willing to spend the bucks, there is plenty of really nice stuff available. Besides traditional rods, I'm into drag racing nostalgia. My faves from my little collection are the Beebe & Mulligan fueler, the Barry Setzer/Pat Foster Vega funny car (autographed by Pat), and Tommy Ivo's four-engined Buick (also autographed) that was a recent gift from an old friend (no... none of those three were in the $10 range - LOL).
I don't collect them per se, but somewhere along the line I ended up with the 1/16 (I think) scale American Graffiti 55 Chevy and the chopped Merc. I've had them a while and haven't been hunting the Milner coupe and the Impala very hard. Are they getting hard to find now or are they still out there? Which of the four cars is the most common and which is the rarest?
Got a bunch of different 1/43 scale, everything from vintage to Nascar, $2 to $100. Those are pretty neat little collectibles.
Cab, those are 1/18 scale I believe... kinda cool. I have a couple hundred diecast in larger scale. Then there are the thousands of Hot Wheels. I did a Bonneville theme in a cabinet that I'll have to post pictures of. It has the 1/18 Pierson Coupe and the SO-Cal Belly Tank as well as 1/24th Danbury Mint Corvette and 32 Ford. I used 8X10 photos of the mountains in the background. It came out kinda neat. Its a work in progress.
I'm infatuated with diecast. My collection is growing out of control. Ertl makes some really cool cars in 1/18th scale. My fav is a flat black 32 with a blown flatty and red steel wheels. I've often looked at these cars but the price has kept me away. Yep, I'm a cheapass. Mootz
I collect diecast too. The stuff is made so nice that I could never begin to build some of it in plastic. Check out the GMP "Malco Gasser Mustang", it defies description in detail for the cost. Joel
I have about 7 Ertl '67 Chevelles, a '36 Ford, a Franklin Mint '39 Ford but the bulk of my diecast is aircraft. I have 3 P-47s, 2 FW-190s, a Wildcat, some racing planes, some other misc planes and about 25 P-51s.
Thanks 35PU! I would love to see a pic of your "Bonneville theme" collection I'm a sucker when it comes to collecting things and vintage toys have been one of them, so to see your collection in a display case would be super cool, to see it in person would be even better! best wishes, CAB
me too!!!!!!!!!! i have a few (thousand) hotwheels too. as well as smaller cars but not many diecast, i just dont have the room in my 1bedroom.
Here is the site where I saw them. They are DCP models. Not the run of the mill die cast. The detail makes them pricey. If your an old fart like me, it brings back memories. http://3000toys.com/catalog/item_list.asp?osql=mfg='DCP'
I have a modest collection of 1/18 scale diecasts, mainly vintage race cars. After reading this thread I found their site and ordered this one.....
Ah the cheap way to have cool cars. I've built one 55 Chevy American Graffiti one and recieved a larger scale one of the smae car. Very nice. Also have John Milners 32 ford, along with a 65 Chevy II straight axle gasser and a blown Hemi Willys. I'll take picture later.
I am a designer at a die cast company, Muscle Machines. I am also a collector of most of the die cast compaines and know some of the other designers. Here are a few of ours, wait till the end of the year, I'll really have something cool to show you guys. Sean
I have Milner's Coupe. I still need to find the 55. Those ones at the top of the post are bad ass lookin. I need to look for those as well.
Started collecting 59 ElCaminos years back. I have 11 different ones including two different banks. Oh and a shit load of nascar.
Awesome!! thanks for the link....I have several 1:18 scale cars, now Im like a kid in a candy store...
Here's a link to some Chevys: http://www.wcpdi.com/ Basically factory appearance with lots of detail but pricey, the 59's caught my eye.
