I have a friend with a 64 Chevrolet ... and a BBC. Very old style traditional looking mild custom but with a BBC. He wants to install the new MSD Atomic injection unit on his Chevy. We cannot talk to anyone who has actually bought one. We have seen the MSD videos and a few on U-tube ... but we wanted real world experiences with the unit. We can handle the installation and all the wiring ... but are apprehensive about the reliabliity of the unit and it's performance. $2,500 is a lot of money ... to try something
One of the guys on bangshift was talking about it for his ot car, but I doubt he ever did it. I'm firmly in the $5 Qjet carb camp myself for my mild big block drivers
Well ... we bit the bullet and ordered one Went and got the Atomic fuel injection unit, a new MSD distributor and a MSD box. He has a big intake with the 4 hole Holley base plate pattern ... so the ATOMIC will bolt on. Now I just have tp figure out the rest of it
theres a place up here in michigan called Motor City Muscle. I know they do quite a bit of FI retrofits. Might be worth a try calling them.
I have seen one personally that is on a magazine project car. It seemed OK, but if it were me, i would spend $500..00 more and get this http://www.m***floefi.com/ M*** Air flow is much better and it's sequential port injection. JMO
It sounds like you may well be OK (dunno about reliability) - there was a comparo in the June '12 Mustang Monthly (prolly gunna get thrown off for mentioning a pony car) and they seemed to think the MSD Atomic unit was pretty good. You can probably get a download of their story by checking on their website. Good luck with the install and tell us how it goes. Cheers.
Any updates on the MSD Atomic EFI? Am looking into this, but can not find much info on mpg improvement or reliability/ known issues.
Randy-Personally I have not seen much from MSD that was dependable in the least sense.....I know it is OT here but Id use ASM or edelbrock for efi... Also why not run the GM/Ramjet setup?
