Does anyone have experience converting the front drums on a '41 - '47 Hudson to discs? I'd like to utilize the stock spindles, if possible. This is going to be a real driver, so I need brakes that were designed for 70 mph traffic and not just 40 mph traffic...remember, this is a fairly large car! Any ideas, help, or real-world knowledge would be appreciated a bunch, thanks!
I ve looked into it for my 47 pick up. the people I talked to in NC seemed to be the only real solution. You send them your spindles and bearing nuts and they send you back a kit in about 2 weeks. It was pridemore brakes i believe and they were in north carolina. I have the info someplace if you cant find them.
Yeah. I have late 70's Ford Torino brakes set up on mine. There's a spacer on the spindle to mate with the id of the bearing. They work well.
Disc brakes on anything is very doable if you have basic fab skills and a few tools. 1. Find a rotor that fits your stock drum brake hub. (helpful counter worker is key) look at rear rotor hats that share the same wheel bolt pattern. 2. Get some GM calipers (new or used) 3. Get some rear weld on caliper brackets (speedway) 4. Make your caliper brackets using the speedway parts …. air hose works great for holding the caliper on the rotor.
Ya may have already read this? but i'll post it again,i'm thinking it wouldn't be all that hard to fab something up along the same line?? It maybe close to the 41-47 Hudsons? http://www.cl***iccar.com/forum/discussion/comment/154239#Comment_154239 The Kits that are talked about is no longer available Richard Pridemore had talked about re-issuing the brackets, but hadn't heard any more on it.....chuck
Here's some pictures of the bracket that will need to be made:: Master cylinder-- brake calibur brackets--
