  2. Yes, indeed, and it's well worth it. I never found anyone who didn't enjoy their visit. I don't know if it qualifies as what people call a "bucket list" thing, but something like that.

Odd, I saw a bunch of those GM prototypes at Barret Jackson Scottsdale in 2009. Some were pretty strange looking.

Not just cars but also some incredible memorabilia that a lot of collectors would love to see.
Wayyyyy back in 1979 I was at the Classic Chevy Club nats meet and was talking to Bob Wingate, who was a tri-five expert. I was asking him if GM had stashed away any of their old promotional stuff, etc. He told me about his trip to Detroit where he was given a tour of a GM warehouse where he was shown a lot of old Motorama displays including this 1956 cutaway.

  5. Yes indeed. That's when/where a number of vehicles were sold off in the reorganization and yes, there were some strange rangers among them. The group was mainly SEMA show cars, affinity vehicles, etc.

  6. Yes, GM had a lot of stuff spread out all over the country. Many of the plants had no idea what they had and would periodically throw things away.

  9. Not speaking for GM or the Feds, but apparently the collection is seen as more valuable to GM than the cash it would bring.
