Hi All! Just a fast request: I have a line on an '89 T5 trans from an S10 and need to know if I can mate it to the '82 351 Windsor standard bellhousing I have bolted to my '83 302 engine. Many thanks in advance! Regards, Dave.
Search is still king, but the short answer is no - the bolt pattern for the S10 (chevrolet) will not match the bellhousing for the 351w (ford) http://www.inliners.org/Jack/t5_page.html
Thanks guys! I figured that might be the case and had done some searching to see if there was possibly an adapter available. I will continue my search (for a Mustang version). Thanks again! Regards, Dave
In the stockcar business they make a ****ter sheild bellhousing that bolts to the Windsor and bolt up a GM 3 speed ****** up. We use this set up in one of our Windsor powered stockers. Not sure about the input shaft as my son set it up.
The later model V6 T5s found in the 4th gen F bodies(93-02 Camaro/Firebird) did indeed use the Ford pattern at the bellhousing. I *thought* the same year S10s may have had this pattern too, but I may be wrong. The early boxy S10s '82-'93 used the GM 'H' bolt pattern.
93 and later s10 t5's use the ford pattern. what you have to watch out for is the input shaft length. The chevy t5's have shorter inputs and the mustang t5's are longer. I do not know which one would fit your application though.
Don't fool around - get one out of a Mustang. They're plentiful, have far better ratios than the S10 T5, and they bolt in using a Fox Mustang bellhousing.
One thing of note. 94/95 Mustangs used a longer bellhousing and input shaft than the 84-93 Mustangs. 94/95s are the first year of the bulbous SN95 cars. I do recall seeing some kind of adapter to use an 80's Mustang T5 behind an older Top Loader bell.
