I finally got on the stick to build these and thought it would make a good post for tech week.
The first thing was to decide where to mount the fender braces. I'd seen some mounted to the brake backing plates but I wanted something stronger, so decided on the upper backing plate mounting bolts so as not to interfere with steering stops, etc...

The next step was to fabricate some mounting plates from 1/4" plate steel and drill for the mount holes. I added a small cut out to the underside to clear the top of the kingpin when installing/removing as things get kinda tight.

Next I cut some 1/4"x3/4" flatstock and welded it to the plates so the vertical strut was behind the wheel cylinder and the horizontal strut was above the steering stop and under the rear adjusting nut on the backing plate.

    Mounted to hub.

The struts were bent just past the brake drum and at the tread edge to get them close to the tire.

Next I cut two lengths of the same stock and put them through the roller until their curve matched the inside of the '36 ford spare tire cover. This nests nicely in the raised center ridge. I cut the spare cover into three 28" lengths so I'd have an extra in case of a problem.

The curved bar was centered over the tire and welded to the struts.

Finally the fenders were marked and tack welded onto the frames, ready for primer and paint (still working on that:rolleyes:)
