Has anyone heard of a German company called G-mate? I just baught a realy nice used G-mate HVLP for $55 bucks off ebay...model# HF 302 w/an adapter for 3M pps-systems cups. Has anyone heard of it or used one before? I have 0 experiance painting a car and thought it would be a good gun for the $$$ to learn with. It is water based paint approved as well. What do you think? I plan on using Summit's epoxy primer with it. I went on their websight (G-mate) and the gun sells for $140 euro in Germany wich is like $180 US dollars. It is realy high quality, cold forged aluminum housing w/ stainless internal parts...the machining is realy high quality too. I think it's comparable to a low/mid level Sata Jet. I think I got it cheap cause nobody has heard of it. My "GUT" told me to buy it...I will let you know how it turns out...LOL

Never heard of the company before, but at $55 it's probably not particularly spectacular, but should get the job done for primer. On that note, a $700 spray gun doesn't mean you'll get a perfect paintjob, it's the guy pulling the trigger. If you are just starting out, I recommend you go to your local paint store, they usually have mis-mix paints that you can practice with. Read the pds for the material you're using and with enough practice you'll be ready to move up! When you're looking for a good topcoat gun, look into C.A. Technologies, SATA results at half the price

With enough practice, you'll find it's not so much the equiptment as it is the familiarity with it that will produce results. I've done alot of paint jobs with cheap guns that came out great. Just practice with it, get to know it, and you will get very good results. It also helps to stick with one brand of paint products and get the feel for them. I always used Ditzlers because they were to me a very forgiving product. Just don't let paint jobs overwhelm you, they're not that hard to do. You'll be fine with it.

  5. If its your very first paint job - paint some junk first. Old fenders, hoods, old truck, trailer whatever.
Yep paint is expensive, but the practice is priceless and the education is cheaper that way.

What size fluid nozzle? You will need the right size to spray your primer

The nozzle tip size is 1.7...good for primer or base coats?

The 1.7 will work ok with primer..i wouldn't recommend it for basecoat but it can be done.

Please don't base anything with a 1.7 tip, you want a 1.3, 1.4 maximum for base coats, and the same for clears, with few exceptions. Primer guns usually range anywhere from 1.7 to 2.5

I agree, but base can be sprayed with a 1.7 in a pinch..NOT recommended though!

  11. better off to drink the base paint and piss it on the car.
You might get away with drinking the clear at the same time and make your own single stage.

The original poster is a novice first time painter.
Looking for good advice for him.
Perhaps a longtime gun man can pull off some slick tricks and work with what's there in a pinch. Problem is , he can't pour years of experience in the gun.

Hey thanks for all your input...Very greatful over here. What do you think about Summits epoxy primer?

  14. Haven't shot their primer -
But I like their paint - the single stage is kirker & there is a converter to make it a BC/CC available from kirker. Works great ! !

Heard the summit BC/CC was Sherwin Williams and a bunch of others manufacturers too for that matter. But I like it too.

Summit epoxy is probably one of those manufacturer paints too.
Lot of guys swear by tcp Global. http://www.tcpglobal.com/ for paints and primers.
