I want to replace my motor but I don't want to cut the firewall. I've found a 215 buick, will it shoehorn in? Will any old dodge or desoto hemi fit?

Here is one with a small block V-8, 700R-4 and a Quick Change rear. It takes planning but it all fit. The steering and radiator do take some shoe horn work.
This car is in Prescott, AZ and has a great reputation for being well done by a craftsman/owner.

That's not even close to being a Ford body. It's one of those kit deals. Not really any comparison.

Don, looks like it has already gone to hell. All I wanted to know is will a 62 buick motor fit without cutting the firewall.

Here is a chart with all the most popular engine dimensions.

    http://www.carnut.com/specs/engdim.html

I'm surprised that the 215 is almost as long as a sbc motor. Maybe the water pump and timing cover stick out somewhat, making it that long. I know a lot of guys put the 215 into MGB's, which led me to believe they are compact.

Aren't the Rover engines a 215 Buick also ? What is your reason for choosing this particular motor ?

I found this one on Youtube, it really doesn't look very big in this trike.

I wish I knew the answer to the question, but the Dodge is the only Hemi I've not built a car around, and never messed with a 215. There has to be a few build threads on here with a 241 Hemi, right?

I can measure the length of my Desoto Hemi if it helps you. Too bad the Chrysler is the only Hemi on Don's chart.

I don't know how to post a link, but look at a thread ***led "hot rodding a Buick 215". There is a good photo there of a 215 in a '33 Ford. Belongs to a HAMBer in Australia.

It appears to have an uncut firewall.

    Here you go.

  10. If you are fitting a 215 it can be done without cutting the firewall, but is tight.
To give you some extra room swap in the short water pump from a mid 90,s Range Rover (the engine is the same as the early 215)- this gives you about an extra 1.5" to play with.

I have dimensions of the dodge and desoto hemis on my home computer but I am away from my comp right now. Off the top of my head the desoto hemi should fit.

Thanks for the help. I have found a 40 mercury flathead I think will work fine. Harley
