Hi, I want to put fixed quarter windows in my 49 merc. I have the 1950 seals, but is the glass the same size?

  2. coolblue, i don't think either the 49/50 or 51 merc glass is the way to go on your car. i just can't imagine how you'd make that look good. as much as your car is chopped i don't know what you'd do with the bottom corners of the 51 glass. basic rule of thumb when kustomizing a car is to use parts from cars that are newer than what your building. maybe somthing like a 3 piece from a 57 buick would look good. you will have to have the metal around the window also, not just the glass.

  3. if it's chopped you should be fine. if not, seems like they would have to be a little bigger.

  4. thanks for that. first time i've seen that. i didn't know the different trim levels. other than the monterey. i've had guys argue that all mercurys had pivoting windows.

I think it's silly when people say a '51 chop is worthless without retaining the '51 rear glass...it all boils down to personal preference or what the customer wants in my opinion. It's not because someone can't lay down a '51 rear glass- it just depends on what the particular chop calls for- the Hirohata '51 rear glass looks fantastic, but look how low the bottom edges are compared to the beltline and bottom edge of the quarter windows...nice trick Sam Barris employed. Same goes for the Dick Dean-chopped Lee Lucero '51 rear window- bottom rear corners of the stainless are shaved because the window is laid down to flow so nicely...it's an art to chop a '51 and retain the the rear glass, but I think a lot of chopped '51s look awesome with a '50 rear window as well.

  9. He hasn't got a Merc. It's a '53 Ford.

  10. like this 51 merc glass cut to fit.
I've taken many back glass and laid them over different windshields till I find a similar curve. then cut the windshield down to fit a smaller opening. it really does look better than many oversized back glass that some have used over the years.
so many options so little time
