not to hijack the thread, and not posting this to sale for my benefit. I found this 1955 last weekend if anyone's interested. Its located in Central Ca. The lady said its 100% original, inside is perfect again everything inside original, even the dishes. fridge and stove work and has electric brakes. Just thought I would pass it along, I was thinking it would be nice to tow behind my Lincoln but I dont have the room to store it. Think she wanted 5k for it. If anyones interested pm me.
Thats cool, pulling a old camper with an old car and using old camping supplies. Sent from my DROID device using the TJJ mobile app
Im jealouse of Grumpy.... I love the Airstream. and the Scotty and the bump top. I keep lookin for one, and cant find it. I did find a little pop up though
I like that picture. Look for an Optimus 00 with a roarer burner - ideal for your sort of camping. You will be amazed at how much more powerful they are than your gas stove. They are cheap on eBay and if you buy one that needs restoration the various seals you need are easily available and not expensive.
Striped some more paint off yesturday, took all the windows out, door off, and a little piece of aluminum off. The rest of the aluminum sides are almost ready to come off. Sent from my DROID device using the TJJ mobile app
Try to fit a 350 SBC into it... Everything with wheels needs one. Just kidding. Looks like a fun project: fun to build and fun for years to come.
I'm in the process of building a teardrop trailer to pull behind my t-bird, here's a couple shots of the build , will be finished with aluminum skin. Hopefully one of my first trips will be to the salt flats T L A R* plans used exclusively. (that looks about right)
A few weeks ago I saw one of those campers being pulled down the road behind a Chevy SSR. Looked cool because it was painted to match and the tear drop design of the camper matched the rounded features of the SSR.
D-man, Grumpy...maybe we ought to have a traditional vehicle pulling a traditional camper get-together somewhere!! Here is my '60 Scotty before and after rebuild
I'd be up for a car/camper show. Dan, i love your scotty. A friend of mine just picked up a 59 scotty. Sent from my DROID device using the TJJ mobile app
Hell yeah. Id be down for a HAMB Hotrod and Camper shindig! Here's both our campers a few weeks ago. They've since been put into indoor storage for winter but we had a great time at this show we camped at. 1963 Airstream Globetrotter 1969 Scotty
Thanks edweird, It's a driver and has many flaws up close, but it sure is fun to drive and with the addition of the teardrop I'm hoping to do alot more long distance cruising and events.
Very nice campers and tow rigs! It seems like all the scottys were very similar with a few minor differences.
Thats where the wood was carved out so the wires could be ran, so the aluminum side wasnt sitting on top of them.
Lots of good tech info on trailer restoration from "Mobiltec" Larry. Over 100 videos covering complete restoration of fifties trailers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WR75nefBQ5U Do a search for Mobiltec Shasta or Mobiltec Deville. Warning you can spend hours watching and learning.
"Junkyard dog" made this little teardrop for ma a few years ago and I STILL haven't slept in it yet. Gotta get busy with my 34 coupe to tow it to a local 2 or 3 day hotrod event. He skinned it with galvinized steel and it's ben parked outside for years..still looks ok with no rust.
That's a SMALL teardrop! Here's Mine, brother Ed, and I built.....Ed passed in 2007, my way of keeping a bit of him with me... My old one I sold......
Big update, thursday night we put the new floor down. Saturday morning went and got more material to build the sides. Started on the sides saturday and finished it up sunday. Also had a photoshop done, black stripe in the middle or no stripe? Sent from my DROID device using the TJJ mobile app
