Got the drivers side rockers all apart and cleaned. Gonna take them to the machine shop and see what they say. I think they are good enough to run but will make sure. Gotta take a piston up to them so they can get all the measurements for gary so i can order pistons.

Whats the part number or where do i get the plugs for the ends of the rocker shafts?

    Time to start ordering.

I need to get some machining done and measurements taken to order pistons. My idea is to order the parts that the machine shop can install and keep busy with while waiting for the pistons.

    My list so far....

    valves
    valve springs
    valve guides
    frost plugs
    cam cap and plugs
    intermediate bushing
little plug to reroute oil to filter
    rod bolts
    main and head arp studs

What else???? Not looking to order everything to do the complete rebuild.... just enough to keep the machine shop busy.

One look: With a black engine, stainless fasteners, chrome valve covers, upper pulleys, air cleaner. Keep the attention drawn to the top end (strong suit of the Hemi) & centered. All around the engine compartment should stay black so it will 'disappear'. Scott Sullivan style. It will take on a industrial/minimalist look.

Yea it depends on if I can get the motor to fit without cutting into my firewall too much. It is original Mopar pale blue. If I can keep that im gonna paint the motor a royal blue or something close. If not then im not sure. Will prob paint the firewall cream and the motor light blue and eventually the car a dark blue. Not sure yet.

Be sure to ask your machine shop about resurfacing the rocker tips.

    How is that done???

I just had my machinist neighbor (works at John Deere) check the rocker shaft and he says the shaft is probably wore down .001 Will bring home his other gauges to check the bore tomorrow.

Cleaning the rocker posts. Make sure u spend extra time on the one that has oil passages. Just when u think its clean.... clean it again.

    More thinking too much.....

What air cleaner am i going to run? I have the stock one and thought about gutting it and putting in a modern element but its really kind of too big.

Anyone got an old oil bath style air cleaner with an aluminum top with some design stamped in it?? Thinking about taking something like that and reworking it. Really wont know what im looking for till i see it.

    Any other ideas??

Cleaned up the heads tonight. Ok only one so far. Did some grinding on the outside getting rid of castings and ready for paint. Also cleaned up the exhaust ports a little. Still need to gasket match and go back to the machine shop.

    Got my gaskets today.

So how do I "gasket match" ? Set the gasket on the head. Mark it. Grind to match gasket? What about the part of gasket that overlaps the hole? Exacto knife?

I just bolt on the intake and shot some paint down each runner painting the intake where the ports don't line up. U can see bout a 1/16" mark on the left side.

Im thinking I will clean/open up the ports a little to help better flow.

Does this sound right? Im not gonna go crazy but would like to match a little better

I'll take a slightly different approach on the 'need' to do much of anything considering that this is intended to be a daily driver.
You have ports big enough to throw a cat through which means that velocity will be on the low end when the rpms are in 'cruze-mode' so making it even easier for the air to move may not be the best course of action. Keeping the air churned up a bit will help keep the fuel in suspension rather than letting it fall onto the floor of the intake.
Any gasket protrusion or port mis-match just might be a good thing.

my 2¢ ...other opinions will differ.
