can't NEVER get enough. i feel really lucky that i get to watch mike manhandle that beast a few times a year. i get all geeked up every time...just like the first time....long live the wing, al marcellus and mike boyd (and all the good fellas who keeo the dream alive!!!)

Yea... Mike Boyd kicks ass... My brother Matt (urkillinmesmalls) went to the Ca. Nats about ten years ago with our boss at the time... my boss relayed this story: Mike Boyd... big giant muscular dude at the time... looked like a body builder... was adjusting the valves... Matt... weighed about a buck-o-five... goes up and says... Matt: "Do you drive this thing?" Mike: "Yep" Matt: "Are you gonna drive it with one hand like Wild Willie?" Mike, with a snaring glare: "Uh... no..." Classic... he was bad ass then... and has just gotten better with time (as the car has gotten faster) Sam.
Last year at the CCHR "Mad Fab" Evel and I stood 3 yards away from this thing when it took off... I still get the shivers...........

You guys see the wing at the track, stop by the pits and tell Mousie how you liked the run. That guy runs this thing all over the country on a shoestring just to put on a show for you. And Mike has turned out to be a worthy sucessor to Willie who still travels with the team last I heard... You old farts remember the funny car? When Willie stuck a stuffed gloved hand out the driver's door window for laughs? One other thing that sticks with me. I've seen top fuel and funny car teams in the old days stop working on the car between rounds and head for the fence long enough to watch Willie and the Wing make a pass. Mike's almost pulling that off now.
by far my favorite car in the history of cars, period. i love it. watching that video puts the biggest smile on my face....... i saw it run at raceway park last year and was dissapointed it didnt run this year......i have a bunch of altered DVD's that i bring with me for the laptop when i go on business trips...its like better than porn..........almost.
well, you can be sure that anytime the wing runs, every top fuel team on the return road stops and salutes...at least every gg's race ive been to..close enough!
SAm, have you ever seen Mike Boyds dad Jimmy Boyd, He is a real bad ass. He use to race fuel dragsters in the 60's and still sometimes races his contemporary front engine car now. His car is called the "Red Turkey" he crashed at one of the Bakersfield races a couple of years ago. I am not sure if he is still racing now. Jimmy White
