10 years ago, my son was 9 months old, I was in my freshman year of college, no cash, driving a 93 Toyota Corolla. I eventually did the exhaust,intake,suspension,17inch wheel thing and in about 4 months, I flipped it doing 115 on I-45 South.
    Oh what a feeling, indeed:rolleyes:

10 years ago, I took a severance package from my job at a nuclear plant, started my own engineering firm, moved into a new house, sent one kid to college, still had one at home in high school, and therefore had absolutely NO money to spend on a hot rod project. All I had were a few left-over parts in the garage from the parts I collected as a high school/college kid 35 years ago. After 10 years and both kids through college, my wife can learn to play the cello (her life-long dream) and I can finish my hot rod project (my life-long dream). I have the plan, and have started collecting the rest of the parts to build my '29 RPU highboy on '32 rails, flathead power, 5-speed and quickchange.

Traditional hot rods are the only way to build cars. I agree with Fred Offenhauser:

"There are street rods and there are hot rods. Street rods have a Chevy up front and a can of wax in the back. Hot rods have a flathead up front and tools in the back."

Mine will ALWAYS be a hot rod.

I was just gettin rid of my 500+ inch daily driver peek up, buyin a house and starting on the Model A that has been my daily for the last 10 years.

A quick word of advise....Don't worry about 10 years ago. Worry about NOW!!!!! Make IT the best time of your life. You never know..it just might be.

Uh... until that Chevy blows your doors off... like they would have in 1955...

    Now THAT is "traditional"...

Ten years ago I was freshly divorced, living in Nebraska and dreaming of coming home to Oregon. The Morris had a few hundred miles on it and was running 11s. I hooked it to my black primer '64 Chevy PU packed with tools and parts and towed it to Oregon, stopping to run the Morris at B-ville with Rocky. Ended up bumbling my way into a job at Bob Drakes and nothing's really changed since, except I now work for a little independent shop, the Morris ran 10.30s until getting banned from the track (it's just a street car now), so I'm s l o w l y building a race car, and am thinking about getting married again! Guess I haven't learned much in ten years.....

I would like to say I had a hot pink/neon green pro-street duster called "viking" but unfortunately I was too young ten years ago.

WHY does that make me feel old? And I'm only 24.......10 years ago I was building my first car, a 67 Mustang. Then a 68 Mustang. I had an awesome father who said NO DAUGHTER OF MINE will call me at 4am saying....the tirels flat, I think she's out of gas, the batterie's dead or any other horse **** thing. I love my daddy!:D

  14. Since I started this I might as well end it... I was just ending my Corvair-era, (I had 3 at one point, 64 Greenbrier, 60 Coupe, and my 65 'vert.) and I was collecting parts and looking for something they'd let me into NSRA shows with.

Kinda burnt out on car shows now, need to finish something.

As a matter of fact, I just moved back to Sacramento from Austin and I started Cherry Bomb Productions (with my mom, Vida Lee). Car-wise, I was taking Auto Upholstering and Body Shop/Painting cl***es at night at the Adult School. I did all the body work, primed and painted my car all by myself. Not many girls can say that. In fact...I have not met one girl who can say that. I started an all-girls car club around that time with a few gals in Sacramento and my hot rodding mom. Our first trek as a club was to Paso Robles 1995. My 64 broke down half way there and these jerks we were caravaning with, left a car full of girls along the side of the road. I will not name names, but I still hate them to this day. A$sholes. My mom (Vida Lee) and a couple of girls drove her 55 Merc Monterey and the rest of us rented a Cadillac. It was a great year!

Now, if you asked what I was doing 50 YEARS AGO! ....

I was driving my "A" Roadster Hiboy down back roads at night. No licence; me or the "A!"

    Damn ... I'm feeling old!!!

BUT; the "A' Tudor Hiboy (sitting just behind me) is just about ready to do the same stunt!! (this time I do have a licence!)

I was building on the same F1 that I'm building on right now.
Hopefully I'll get it driving soon.

  21. Just about 10 years ago I was watching some 6'6" tall fellow stuff himslef into my '42 GMC 3/4 ton I had just sold him. I watched it go down the block, got a little misty, walked inside and told my preganant wife (our first) that it was gone and I don't want to talk about it. Went back outside, kicked my 78 Cutl*** (260 V8), hopped in and went to the bar.

    Wife is now the ex
    Don't drink much anymore
    Cutl*** has gone to heaven
2nd son is now 3 years old

And you didn't even drop in and say g'day !!!

I had returned from 18 months in the UK been back a couple of years had the had the 62 Holden I had then only owned for like 9 years going again, daily driver was a 66 Falcon and more importantly I had been to the US back at Easter and had just unloaded my 55 Olds from the container, only to find that it had a flat tire and had managed to sit on the sump on top of one of the pces of timber dunnage breaking the oil pump and bending the grill center on the chev truck it was sharing the container with..... I was pretty pissed was looking forward to driving it home, managed to find a pump locally and eventually got it going and legal in December just after my dad died.
Damn how the world has changed since then.

  26. That's the second time this week someone's posted that!!! Hell, I may be on to something. Or maybe I'm just ON something...

I was 14, inner city **** up. everything was gangs and lowriders. Stealing cars to get back and forth from school cus that was the cool thing to do back then (dont worry just hondas and toyotas), got expelled from seattle schools for a huge list of ****. that summer the cops found where i was hiding several stolen cars and i went to jail. after that i realized cars are my obsession and decided to straiten **** out, so i dropped out of highschool and started an apprenticeship at a euro/jap repair shop.

  28. Good the hear you decided to do something constructive with your life. Best of luck to you with your appenticeship. Do your best to get your GED and then go on to some college. Higher learning will take you as far as you want to go. You've done the hardest part already by deciding to do the right thing for yourself.
