Last night a flat black, highboy model A coupe was stolen from The Subaru dealership in Beechmont. The car was bought and redone by the dealership, (I striped it... red and ivory) and was put on the lot as any other used car.
It was sold!!!! and in the shop, preparing for "pick up" today by some rich kid who's dad paid in full for it yesterday. The thieves broke through the back door of the shop and wheeled her out. The car ran and drove fine.
It all sounds fishy to me... But none the less, I told them I'd put the word out. So here it is.

If ya see or hear anything and want to let us know,,,

    Thanks,

My guess is that one is long gone by now.

Are they building hot rods now or was that a one shot deal?

Should be easy to spot, you don't see many flat black A coupes with red and cream striping...

    I agree... Its parts.

Yeah, they are selling hot rods now... This was there second one. They buy unfinished projects, have the mechanics and body shop at the dealership finish them and put them on the lot... They finance you for it and everything! I'm glad to see it... Its the only way a lot of young guys are going to get into it. There not over pricing them either.

Wow that's crazy! Must have been some sort of inside job, or someone that KNEW it was in there. How does a flat black Model A end up in the used car section of a Subaru dealership?? I think if I cruised by a new car dealership and saw an old Model A on the lot, flat black and striped, I'd have to buy it! I wonder if it was financed? 90 day warranty? lol Somethign sure does sound fishy about that whole deal though....

That is a good way to fill the slow time at the shop.

Are they building anything right now?

Don't mean to get too off track with this but it it ends up being a tough situation.

We all (myself included) complain about states that make it so hard to get an old car legal, but it really isn't that hard. There's some sort of trade off there.

Having cars that are really tough to register and being a little safer from theft and re-registration VS. Easy to register and steal to re-title. Maybe?

I suppose overall it might not really matter that much considering a stolen hot rod would likely be dismantled for parts.

I'll see what pics I can come up with... But they probly won't help much. Like you all are thinking... Flat black, red steel rims, red and ivory striping, small block chev... This is the honda civic of the rat rod community.

Thanks though for your input guys. The boss at the dealership has gotten a couple of calls from guys around here wanting more details of what the car looked like. He is blown away!!! He can't beleave the response time of the HAMB, and how helpfull y'all are.

    Thanks again

    Dilligaf,

May want to check out the big Milford Cruise-in Friday nevening at the Steak & Shake; probable close to 600 - 700 cars there. I'm probably going to Wheelersburg, OH. Saturday night for a cruise; usually about 400 cars there. I'll also be at the show in Agusta, Ky. on Sunday as well so I'll keep a lookout.

I have never heard of a Hot rod being stolen especially somthing from a locked dealership, sounds a bit like an inside job and the poor lad who just purchased it and was going to drive it away must be gutted .

    Get me some pics.

I'm all over the greater Dayton area and the weather is perfect right now. If its up here, I'll see it.

I will have them slowly come to a stop, upon which time I will slowly beat them to death with one of the extra 455 crankshafts i have around.

Go shake down the little lot rats who wash the cars and do all the menial crap on the property. Those guys are usually the common denominator when it comes to thefts from a locked dealership. The weakest point is the lowest paid guy.

Because when they're done with that one, they might come after yours, or mine. Or someone else might decide this shit pays after seeing these assholes get away with it.

I'm betting it's parts already and 80% of them are already installed on new/existing cars. If there were anything unique about the parts that's the only way you'll ever find them and then only by some obscure chance.

i was thinking about this on the way home .....whats to say the car doesn't show up at the pumpkin run .....different wheels....and new coat of paint....maybe some interior...how would you even know.... ? was there anything trick on the car.....maybe a custom crossmember...a special item that is just odd enough to stand out....? i doubt the car will be scraped.....i would guess it will be on the streets in a couple weeks..... brandon

Amen man, my garage got broke into last year, now I'm awake every time the dog barks. Oh well, it beats buying a new welder every year.

Brandon - I've got a couple pics of your car running at edgewater, I'll post em up when I get home in the morning...
