Sooo, my first post... I just picked up this little rod ***led as a 1918 Dodge here in San Diego. I was looking at it for a while on Craigslist SD before I bought it. I knew that I had seen pictures of it before from a car show in Washington state, although it looked a little different then. It didn't have the black paint, the bucket was red paint, sanded down to bare metal in spots. The engine has a tag on it from a speed shop in Tacoma, so I'm guessing it was built somewhere in that area.

Do any of you HAMBers in that area recognize it, know who built it, have any info on it, etc.?

    I was thinking about a 37 terraplane...

I think it would look cool with a shortened whippet shell, or 32 ford shell would be cool too.

I'm still considering different grilles, but I was thinking about the terraplane because I can have it go in front of the axle. There is very little room in front of the electric fan.

    Whippet shell, hmmmm...

I'm working on a desoto modified. I'm from San Diego, so eventually when I get it going I plan to drive it out to SD often.

Cool, let me know when you're in town. I don't mind one bit cruisin' down PCH for a day.

Ive got one of those dodge bodies in the shop...neat ride, as high up as that front perch goes it might be hard to get something to go over that axle area very nicely..Id stick with something that small that will fit behind.. a chopped down 32 chysler grille would look slick, a little different and it sticks with the mopar getup

There is literally no room between the front perch and the fan, so if I want something going behind the axle I would have to cut the insert and have the front perch go through it. (Like in the pic from MikeRose) Maybe I'll have the grille insert and perch both be black, and paint the shell and body a different color. I'm still thinking here...

I am noticing a trend here that every pre 1923ish body on the HAMB is a Dodge.

They were a good solid body with very little wood. Plus the look pretty damn cool.
