Hot Rods Can you define a "traditional" 40's hotrod

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Modeljunkie, Oct 18, 2012.

  1. AMEN! A hop up here in East Tennessee would have been a big car (like a sedan) that was made for two things, speed and the capacity to carry allot of product! My best friend owns his dads runner from the early 50s, 32 ford sedan. Think of the movie "Thunder Road". I live on that road, Kingston Pike in Knoxville. I think it depends on the part of the country you live in. Hop ups were allot different on the east coast than the west coast.

    I'm so fed up of hearing the traditional doctrine according to Joe Blow, I just don't care any more.

    I put those hot rods here into 2 categories;

    "HAMB Friendly" are those that I consider to be styled in the pre-'49 way, but using some modern parts or design features without looking like street rods.

    "HAMB Conforming" are those that are pre-'49 period-perfect, using parts and the build features mired in the pre-'49 days.

    Here are some '40's hot rods. All were V-8 flat heads too. The one has an Ardun OHV conversion installed. Some with fenders some without.
