I am installing a later model 350 in my 56 fairlane with a chevy II oil pan. What did you guys do to fill the old dipstick tube hole in the block? Thanks in advance. Sorry in the title that should be Chevy II oil pan.
Dont want hijack the thread buy Is the Chev II pan shallower than a standard pan? I need to lose an inch or so of oil pan depth wiith my 88 SBC and cannot move the motor up.
I believe your engine is to new for that type of oil pan. The ChevyII oil pan has the sump towards the front of the engine. There is shallow 4 qt oil pans available, but make sure it's for your 88 engine.
Do you want a picture of them side by side? I can take some in the morning if you like. Like others have said, It is a front sump pan.(The reason I am useing it)
Thanks for pic offer but I didn't know it was a front sump pan. Guess I'll keep looking . thanks again
I have installed several small block Chevys in 54 to 56 fords. The Y block that came in these cars had a front sump..You need the front sump pan for clearance. on a circle track car I made the pan wider for more capacity. On a highway car the stock pan will work fine. I never had a problem with the short oil pump . Just make sure the oil pick up has the extra brace for support..................... You can use a rear sump Chevy pan but you will have to do a lot of fab work................................. Drop tie rods don't work very well with this rear set up............................... I used the 66 Chevy truck side mounts {single bolt hole} just elongate the exist hole on the cross member and it will work fine. same for the trans mount and use a trans mount from a 64 Chevelle................ Back to the dip stick question just install a site glass on the side or if you widen the sump use a circle track dip stick that is mounted on the pan.. I hope you can understand what I typed. Good luck Bobby.
