1934 Ford Chopped 5 Window Mystery Coupe, Need help IDing this one

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Panneton Bros. Racing, Oct 31, 2012.

  1. A short while ago, my buddy Gil Muro @ Hot Rod Ranch bought this one off ebay and is trying to trace any history on it. The guy he bought it from's name is Gary Smith. Gary had too many projects. Gary bought it from the son of a guy who had p***ed away (we are trying to find out his name)just a few years ago. We believe the owner before Gary had the car from the mid 70's to the early 2000's. The one unique thing on the car so far is probably the tail light mounting position, not the best place, but may help to ID at least the body. The car was said to run a blown big block in recent years, and looks to may have had big block power for some time. The car was bought with the nasty centerlines and Gil quickly threw on some magnesium wheels so we wouldn't puke in our mouths anymore. One of the guys who came to the "G***er Round Up" remembered see the car at LA County Raceway in the early 80's and forwarded the pick with the other nasty shiny wheels. 2. PS. The way the frame exits the back of the car may also be a clue to the cars past. Thanks again, Ric.

WOW!! That car is cool as hell. Yes, it is yellow, which Idon't like and it has a Chevvie engine, which I also don't like and the grille is too damn tall, but DAMN that thing is cool...

  5. Yes to all that, but the price was right for the body alone. The plan is to do a 1960-'63 ish blown small block chevy 4-71 or 6-71 with Cragar drive. streetable drag coupe look. 34 7 11.jpg I have a '56 265 we can start with, but want to do as much an era correct build as possible. It would be really *****en if it turned out to be this car. I know there was one a Bakersfield recently, but don't know if it was a clone or not. 34 7 11.jpg

looks like the Hyder car that was stolen back in the sixties

  7. dont think its the Hyder car, rear quarter windows are diffrent on the Hyder car they appear to be stock shape although chopped. these have a tear drop look to them which make them another unique feature to look for. hope you guys get some more info on it its *****en! look forward to a build thread!

  8. Got to agree with you Monster, the door windows look very close, but if you print pics of both cars and put them side by side, Gils quarter windows are much different. Also the "A piller" door seam on the Hyder car has a sharper transition from the bottom of the piller to the cowl area. Good suggestion on the Hyder possibility though, keep em coming.

  9. This one looks close, wish the pic was better, or a side shot. attachment-4_2.jpg

Your buddy got a smokin deal on that, I tried calling the guy but he never answered. By the time I got back to the computer and figured out what cars and parts I needed to sell to pay for the car the buy it now for 14k had already been been hit. I'm so glad that car is in capable hands of getting it back on the road as a g***er. That's exactly what I had in mind for it if things would have worked out, oh well.. I know that this thing has some kind of history to it, its chop is way too heavy for anything besides serious racing, and by the looks of it was done pre 70's. It is not the 7-11 car, one of the Peckerheads has it and races it (I help drink the beer and keep it clean), and plus this one has one hell of a hefty chop. I look forward to seeing this thing back on the street/strip tearin it up. I love heavily chopped coupes-especially 33-34's. Bad***!

  14. I don't think this is it but it was chopped like this, line up the B pillar and blend the front and back.

  15. Thanks Sinister for putting the 7-11 question to bed. The chop seems to be very well done, so someone with talent did it. This car also still has the cowl vent hole, it just has a piece of aluminum riveted in. The point is it was never filled so that might be another identifier. Gil was also scrambling to see what he could sell to buy the car, and finally figured this was a once in a blue moon chance, so he hit the buy it now ****on.

  16. Hey Flynstone, can you elaborate on Ed and his old "Chicken Coupe? Any pics?

  17. Man, 712jr almost looks like the 7-11 car earlier on, especially that nose.

That mail slot rear window should narrow it down!

That looks like an earlier version of the 7-11 coupe. It doesn't have a pointy quarter window like the coupe in question.

Just went and saw the 15 oz. coupe thursday. I wish I was a good enought liar to say that it belonged to my dad or grand dad or whatever to get my hand on it. What you have there is one beautiful car and did I say I am jealous...

I noticed in your pictures, you look to have two brackets on the cowl to secure the back edge of the hood.

I then noticed this picture and saw the heavy looking hood latches on the cowl. No idea where the picture is taken etc and if there is a possibility it could actually be your car or not.... but it was posted by Kiwi Kev here: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=8364594&postcount=49

Anyway, I hope it is of interest. Cool car by the way, I love the chop.

It even appears to have the same solid-style wheels?

The car posted by Harms Way and the yellow car both have the chicken track rear wheel wells and it apears they both retained all three door hinges after the chop. Keeping the upper hinge is not that common and might help pin it down.
