Just got my new motor in 351w aluminum heads and cam. It has the msd 8584 distributor on it. Before I had all stock ford cap and ignition box. To wire it up is completely different. I went from 3 wires now to 2 wires for the distributor. The paper work says an msd ignition is required. Is that true or just them wanting more money out of you. If I do then which one will I need? I have no idea on the rev limitors and all that. Its never gonna be down the strip just on the street. As far as the car its 450 hp 460tq with a 2800 stall. Can anyone shed some light on what I need.
    As always thanks
    Aaron

Call the place you bought the engine from and ask them.

So any suggestions on which one?

  7. bfz, I highly recommend bringing the 8584 back and exchange for the 8478 Street Pro- Billet w/ vacuum advance. Yes you need the box with either unit, and I again recommend the 6425 DIGITAL 6AL w/ rev limiter. All the best, TR

The 8354 Distributor will run without a box. READY TO RUN w/ vacuum advance!!

L- models are adjustable rev limiting.

The advantage of the DIGITAL box is the rev limiter has 2 roartary dials, the ANALOG or standard 6A box requires CHIPS for the rev limiter, they come in incremments of 200 RPM.

You will be pleased with my advice Aaron I assure you, enjoy!!!

  8. Hmmmmm. Useful information, thanks. It appears some modern stuff is not verboten.

  9. Gary, it hurts when I have to use the B word { billet } LOL, glad the info helped, you can always hide the MSD box if you have to, TR

  10. For those following, the DIGITAL box has several benefits over the analog as well, I'm just a little tied up right now to list them all, but they both perform well. The analog box has been a proven performer for decades now.

For the street the 8354 would be the distributor, vacuum advance and you don't need a separate ign box

Well unfortunately I can't take the other back. So I'll have to stay with the 8485. So the 6AL is the best option for me.
