Anyone ever shipped tires before? Found some about 300 miles away and am wondering who I could use to get them here the cheapest.

UPS has a flat rate for tires. i think its 35 dollars. you just wrap the tires in saran-wrap plastic and shipping tape. then tape on a label. i do it all the time.

I have bought many tires from Tire Rack and they always ship them UPS. By coincidence, I am about 300 miles from their warehouse in Indiana. The price per tire is in the range of $12 each, varying with size/weight. Perhaps they have a "volume discount" with UPS, butbthat's what typical costs are.

FedEx had a real cheap rate the last time I shipped a tire. I'm thinking that's how Cokers shipped my tires to me, that is why I checked with them.

It's a different rate than a regular package rate.

What he said just shipped a set for 35.00

  11. FedX or UPS Both are a good way to ship tires. Shrink wrap them and put a label on them and let fly.

Where are the tires, maybe a HAMB relay will work as well.

  12. I've bought tires from tirerack before and both time each pair was strapped together and came UPS ... I wonder if strapping saves money, anyone?

It might be a "per package" thing.

i have a Fedex account and have used Fedex return shipping labels to have some things shipped to me. I get it at my rate and all the sender has to do is slap the label on the package and either Call Fedex for a pickup or drop it at Fedex.

Not to hijack the thread but do you get charged an additional $8.50 -12.50 for not having your item wrapped in cardboard. This just happened to me. I shipped a rear spring...shrink wrapped and taped up. Got a message from UPS (thru PayPal) that I was being charged an extra fee because the item was not wrapped in cardboard. ****s!

Man you guys must be living right. I checked UPS, FedEx, and Grey Hound today and didn't get NEAR the quote you guys are coming up with. I asked to ship 4 individual tires (20 lbs at 7x24x24) and all 4 packaged together (80 lbs at 30x24x24) and got these prices

    UPS - $86
    FedEx - $305 - that's right, $305
    Grey Hound - $97

Didn't try USPS but might tomorrow. Not sure what I'm going to do now. These prices may let a good deal slip by for me.:(

Maybe u-ship or HAMB relay? From where, to where? You might find someone driving that direction anyway who would do it cheap.

I was going to say uship too seeing you checked greyhound already. I was playing on the uship site last weekend, thinking about doing it besides just local stuff but I can't even fire my truck up for what some of these guys bid for loads.

Ask them to price you out on two tires strapped together. That's how TireRack ships to me and has always been reasonable.

Might be a "painted part" deal, if they see it is a paintable part, and it might get scratched...and they might get gouged with a paint repair bill... see what I am saying. Might not be the reason, but I have heard of guys nailing UPS to "repaint" parts that were shipped to them.

Always used USPS, No wrapping or boxes, just put a label on them. Costs about $15.00 each. They even call as soon as they get there because they hate the smell of new tires.
