I want to start and thank all of you for any ideas and help you can provide me with in here on this forum! Well, here we go. Picked this car up last month and has been falling together. Started with not knowing what to do with the stock frame and running gear. The flathead is done and will never be anything but recycled metal. As for the rest of it, I want something rleiable that my wife and kids can take to the store or out on the highway with some reliability. The drum breaks are finnished, kingpins have wear and it all just seemed like too much work for nothing so I decided to clip it. After looking and reading all I found was that the S10 was the way to go and on the hunt I went. Last week I found a 92 S10 Sonoma rolling chassie and gave the man the $100 asking price for the rolling chassie. After I got it home I started cleaning it up with removing things that were not needed and found that it already has drop spindles and lowering springs in it! Nice! He even rolled a real axle under it with no springs so that was a bonus for me. I want to end up on airbags so this chassie is perfect for me and I am going to fab a 4-link in the rear and on some coil springs for now to get it on the road. I now have the stock frame out from under the car and the new one under it and have found the spare tire is going to have to be removed from the trunck. After this is done, today I hope, I will be able to start installing the body mounts under on the frame. I have removed all of the stock mounts off the orignal frame and am going to reuse them if possable on the S10 frame.
Change the title of our post. "Rat Rod" is considered taboo here. Read more about the site and the traditional builds that happen here. I recommend reading a lot.
Cant see how to change it and if it is a problme then maby a mod can do it for me. If it is a problem, I am sorry. As for ratrod, I am not doing any bldywork or mods to it so this is what it will stay looking like. It has taken 53 years to look like this and I love it!
Some people look at rat rods ass a thrown together pile of steaming dog shit that isn't anything close to a real car ...... I also am like you and I catch myself calling cars that are not all fancied up rat rods... My model a is not all dulled up... You just gotta watch the rat rod word round here... I herd the lecture myself
Send that stock chassis my way, I'll put it to proper use...I don't need any of that fancy modern garbage under my cars, I like those MoPar setups...

BD...that's not nice at all. Pretty mean, actually. Your '32 is traditional, but you didn't build it...it was given to you by your father. That's fine...but the OP is diving in and building this car himself. What have you built?...bicycles. You didn't even know why your brakes on your pickup weren't working correctly...you thought it was the steering/suspension. Save the high attitude. Very well said. this is me starting a slow clap... How about we all HELP point this guy in the right direction? He was very polite in his original post and is doing all the work himself. I started off in this hobby as a rat rod kid when I was 18.
Yup, dad built the coupe. I was into muscle cars, but those don't belong here. Got the ol' 49 figured out and fixed long ago, thank you very much.
Hey guy..Good for you saving this car, I don't care what frame is under it I had a noce '49 I recently sold to some one with more time and fewer projects. It was a gas. and I loved the bodt style. It was also stock, and I admit the stock frame is killer and suspension is very good and can be great with a couple mods, so if you haven't yet.. food for thought... There is a way to edit your message title. I did one a while back to get rid of a majior speling error... wish i could remember how, but it was something like hovering your cursor over it and right clicking when it hilighted...

Yes, the car had only seen weather for atleast the last 30 years so I gave it a bath and found some blue paint under the dust. lol Love how it looks and hope to keep it's look just like this for along time.
I have made it through the first 10 pages of your thread and you do amazing work koolkemp! I will get this together and back on the road and will be very proud of where it came from and what I have done to it. Thanx for all of your support and intrest in my ride.
