I have eight Autolite 2100 2 barrel carbs that i am rebuilding. They have one thing in common: the jets and the seat for the gas inlet are VERY difficult to remove (they are over 40 years old). The seat is round and in a corner so that it difficult to grab onto. I am concerned about stripping the threads out if i get too rough. Any suggestions are welcome. Many thanks to all......jack
Liquid wrench. The real stuff is still available. maybe pop them in a hot oven for a little bit and try to remove the parts while they are still hot? Once they start to come out wiggle them in and out a little at a time to break up an corrosion and try and keep the threads clear.
You could try a soldering iron held on the jet to heat it up. May take a few heat/cool cycles to break it loose. Sounds crazy but a 30 minute boil in lemon juice does wonders on carbs.
Pure does a better job faster. 30 minutes. 50% mix needs to boil about an hour and a half for close to but not the same results. As it boils, it needs topped off due to evaporation. If you top it off with water the once 100% gets continually diluted further and further.
Just in case anyone is interested (or cares): a hand-held impact driver (Lisle 29200 or equal.) does the trick every time. Just twist it in the unscrew direction and wack it with the palm of your hand or a light tap w/hammer. no heating or soaking required. so simple, just like me...jack
Yep, make sure you use the wide screwdriver blade. If you don't have an impact driver, use a screw driver. Twist it while you bump the end of the handle with a small hammer.
