Im a chevy dude, Got a ford 302 ford motor. Where are the block cast numbers/date located on the block its self?

Its out of a '72 van

Anything special about a truck block rather than car block?

Do these have thin cylinder walls? wondered about boreing limits, .030 etc

They are right above the pan ran on the driver's side on the side of the block.

  3. a 72 block should be good to go nothing different from a car to a truck whats it matter what the numbers are unless your gonna restore the van?

The numbers are written upside-down above where the starter mounts.

I recently bought an old Mustang, 289... Needed bored out so I bought a 347 stroker kit. Runs like a scalded dog.

Are you saying that the 302's have the number on the drivers side of the block, and the 351's have their number on the p***. side of the block at the same place. These numbers are helpful in that a person can know exactly what year the component is, right down to the water pump.

I may have had the side wrong. My bad. They are right on the underside of the block above where the oil pan bolts on. About 3 or so inches up. Your motor probably should start with D2.....

For a period of time, around '72 or so, Ford used 302's that were cast in Mexico, they have "hecto en Mexico" cast in the block ( valley area, I think ). They for sure have beefier main bearing caps, and maybe ( some controversy ) different (better??) iron material. Still 2 bolt mains, however.
