Just thought I would see how many vehicles were ***led the year earlier than the car really is. Reason I'm asking I have a 33 Es*** terraplane that was ***led as 32 I guess it was made late 32. I know my neighbors 78 mustang is ***led a 77
I have no answer to your question. But I have a 32 Es*** Terraplane Coupe project not ***led yet. I would like to see pictures of your 33.
Some states used to ***le the car as the year the ***le was purchased or the vehicle was originally licensed.
I had an OT '86 Ford Tempo when we lived in Baltimore that the state of Maryland insisted on ***ling as an '85, bought it used so don't know how that happened. Serial number indicated it was an '86. Had the 3rd brake light, which as far as I know was the only difference between an '85 and '86 Tempo, but it was ***led as an '85 when I bought it, with an '86 serial number on the ***le.
Yep, the theory behind it was that if it was built and sold that year it had to be ***led for that year even if it was the next year's model. I've never seen anything on how many states did it though.
My '39 Mercury Sedan is (was tielted in TX originally) ***led as a '38. It has a very low VIN and I suspect it was purchased in late '38. I asked at my local DMV (Oklahoma) about correcting the model year and got turned down, even after showing them do***entation that Mercury wasn't produced for 1938 model year by the manufacturer. I've been ragged on by two different people because they thought I was trying to pull a fast one. After all everyone knows there is no such thing as a '38 Mercury (I agree).
I have looked at a " few " Model A's that were advertised and ***led as a 32 Ford. But I believe it is more of a deception than a mistake. I even have been at 32 Ford events and some one try to slip in with a Model A ... with a 32 grille shell. A 32 grille shell does not make a Model A a 32 Ford. .
My 57 airstream was parked at a lake since new.It was put on the road in 73 for the first time, making it a 73. No one in the registries office could understand why I wanted it registered as "older" than it was.
California was still doing it in '66 that I know of, Missouri was still doing it into the '70s. Oregon did it for a long time as well. Mom bought a '65 Buick new off the lot in Calif. in '66, they wanted to get rid of it and she needed a car. It was registered as a '66. Nope some restorers would say that it makes it a *******.
