The look you have now is gonna be hard to top, less traditional or not.
I like it! (Not sure when those coke bottle or daisy mags came out)

  4. chrome reverse, or cragar s/s's (came out in 64) , radirs , all in 15 inch torque thrusts would work either polished or the gray spokes

    your gal looks awesome btw

Thanks guys. I think the daiseys came out in 68. I think I might go with the chrome steels from wheel vintiques, as mentioned 15x5 front 15x7 rear with bias plys all around. Any one else??

Paint and god dish... Try to find some more modern wider wheels like 8x 15 and some fat rubber with letters in.

I got em on my 64 too! I get lots of thumbs up too!:D

  9. Chrome reverse stock wheels were period correct. Smoothies weren't around from my memory at that time.

I always aspired at that time (68-69) to have chrome reverse wheels on my '64 Mercury Park Lane convertible but didn't have the funds available. Next best thing was Firestone red stripe Wide Ovals on black wheels, no hub caps but chrome lug nuts.

Cragar SS mags are ok, but overused. They are like everywhere.

Another vote for Cragar SS wheels

  13. Lower the car 2-3 inches and run Astro Supremes with skinny whitewalls. Change the look considerably from hot rod to cruiser.

  14. Did you make a change yet ?

I would go with the chrome steelies, like was already mentioned, I don't think the blue or black painted wheels with dog dishes will set the blue car off very well.

This is my 62 with chrome steelies

    PS - I have a set of Radirs for sale if you're interested, (2) 15x4 and (2) 15x8

I didn't make the change yet. Now I'm swaying toward the chrome steels. It's killing me to wait. I want to sell the 200s's first.

I like 15" steelies with 1" white walls and bullit center caps.

A few different looks- I do have dog dishes for the black steelies, but you would have to take them of at the track anyway, and I like it like this. The ones on the ragtop are Internationals- you old buggars will remember them. I also have another set of 8-1/5x15 Torque Thrusts for the 406 hardtop

Radirs in the front and painted steelie's (no caps) in the rear! Vintage S/S look!

Just opinion but here's my 61 Meteor wagon that i took the fancy wheels off and spent more than that to put 15 x 6" front and 8" wide rears with the original hubcaps. It now looks like grandpas car again. Betcha didn't even notice the rear tires are bigger and the wheels are much wider?

    Thanks for the pics guys.

I'm back to body color painted steel wheels again. S/S look I'm after. I know the radirs were out back then , but they just look to modern, and expensive. Ahead of there time I guess.

Mr Racer64, you have chosen correctly - painted wheels with basic caps - perfect!!!
    Now, don't weaken, be strong!
