Any HAMBrs going? I've talked to a couple that said they are. I thought maybe we could have a meeting place- even though HotRodLadyCruiser isn't organizing it. The swap is pretty good and the show isn't too bad either.....even though I've only went to the show part once......can't get out of the swap long enough or afraid I'll lose out on the deal of a lifetime Here's the link: http://www.ohioswapmeet.com/pages/Info.html
i should be goin with my dad, probably on the 10th..i'd drive my car up for the show, but i gotta ride over with him in his truck cuz i NEED somethin to haul stuff in in case i find the deal of a lifetime!but i'll definately be there, wandering around aimlessly looking for skirts for a 54 chevy,a 3x2 setup for a SBC,some lee bubble lenses, lakes pipes/dumps,some colored fuel lines............*starts drooling* creepy
I will be there at least one day,I always drive a old car and park in the show car area since its real close to the swapmeet area and it costs the same to get in and if you park in the general parking the put you in way in the boonies. Parking in the show car area lets you take parts you bought back to your car easier and if you take a cooler you wont have to pay the outragous food and drink prices. Jeff
It's definately a great swap. And I'm defiantely broke myself. But I will probably be there. I've got a friend who sets up a vendor tent and sells his stuff there, so we usually go up and help him out a little and see what other kind of (financial) trouble we can get into.
might be there, i could use some more junk and i'd sure as hell rather spend my dough on it than the women i've been hanging around with...
Hells Bells....totally missed this thread and started another one on same subject. I'll be there in Space J5a/J5b. Kinda stuck there selling junk (oops, I mean valuable collectible antique automobile hard-to-find, one of a kind pieces). White canopy - FLATHEAD V8.COM sign out front. Stop by and say hello............ Mac VP.
btt.....just a reminder guys and gals. The Springfield swap is this coming weekend! Huge swap area, and lots of vehicles for sale too.
I should be there on Friday morning, looking for early deals. If its enough fun, I may go back again on Saturday or Sunday, but last time I went on a Saturday, my car overheated on the highway, stuck in exit ramp traffic. This time, I'm bringing my truck, though, so I can carry more stuff out
We tried the Friday thing this year....not NEARLY as many used parts guys..... We've always went on Saturdays and every year said, "How many parts do we miss on Friday?" Well, not many because I bought less. Have any of you heard the rumor that this may be the last Springfield? I've always thought it was just a rumor. However, the last time we were there, they announced over the loud speaker something about let everyone know how much you enjoy this show because the owners (for lack of a better word) don't like to allow cars shows there????? I sure hope it isn't true. This one and Lancaster are the only ones grandpa will go with me to..
The rumors are true to the end of the swapmeet at springfield, some horse people have built a large new building for them and they dont like the car people even though the car events bring in more attendants then the horse events. They even scheduled their events on the same weekends as the swapmeets to get rid of the swapmeet, the horse people have gotten the fair board on their side to kick out the car events. The county wants the car events as it brings in much more tax revenue then the horse events but the last I heard is the fair board has the final say enev though the county said they might have to raise taxes if the swapmeet goes so this year could be the last year at springfield, the county could not afford to build the new building for the horse events so a couple local companies donated the money for the horse building and I heard they are Maines towing and Benjiman steel so its time to give tell them what we think. Jeff
man..that's sad..i LOVE the springfield swapmeets!! my dad and i try to make it to each one..it's one of the few common bonds we get to share..hopefully SOMETHING can be done to change the stupid horse peoples' minds!! wish there was a petition we could sign or somethin..i know there's supposed to be another one in October...hopefully we'll know the fate by then!! this is really awful because this is one of the better swapmeets in my area creepy
The alarm goes off at 4:45am. I jump to my feet and grab the clothes I laid out the night before, brush my teeth, shove some grub down my throat and make a quick call. As I go out the back door, I can feel the crisp morning air with a heavy accent of moisture. A quick glance to be sure my cooler, parts cart, spare tires and other tools to the trade are still in the back of my truck. I know the tank is full- I filled it the night before, also. I know the oil has been checked, no stoned unturned. As I climb in to my ole' 78 GMC, the memories begin. The same conversations grandpa and I had a millions times begin coming back. As I make my way to my grandpa's, I keep my fingers crossed that there is very little fog- it makes him nervous. You simply can't see the deer until they hit YOU. A quick jaunt into his driveway and he's already standing there ready to roll. As he's quickly loading his stuff into the bed of my truck grandma is asking him what he forgot and I'm wondering if there is any room to bring anything home with us. A speedy good by and off we go. The anticipation grows and his nervousness begins to come out in the form of telling me how to drive. That's ok, I'm used to it by now. Anyone that has survied the depression, WWII in the Pacific and is an old tim hot rodder, can boss me a little. As we get onto the highway, he begins to relax and the nostalgia begins to kick in. "Do you know I've been going up there for X years? How many trips has this old truck made to Springfield? Boy, you sure did get a good deal on this ole' truck. You know, I hate those new cars. They're pieces of shi#t! You can work on these....there's NO electronics." And grandpa would spend his usual time on the "demon spawned computer controlled" cars of today (I'm being a little sarcastic). Next he would start about how he remembers coming to Springfield with all of his buddies. He'll recount all the great buys and rare finds that he has hoarded away. Then, the cold reality that he has out-lived ALL of his friends sets in......except one, that is losing his memory. The gettin' really starts gettin' now, though. ALL the drag racing, hot rodding and crazy antic stories begin. "One time, Jeff, ole' Dale was mad at Jim and Jim got pulled over by the state patrol. That state boy said, 'Why were you going 80?', and old Jim said, 'Officer, this car won't do 80.' About that time ole' Dale yelled from the back seat, "Yes officer, he was doing 80. I saw it on the speedometer!' Boy, I thought they were going to have it out. Then, one time ole' Mountain Bird (local constable) - he was a big dumb guy that carried a black jack- chased us out of town. But, he didn't know we had put black paint over his head lights until he reached the edge of town and the town lights didn't help him!" And, these stories would go on and on... Grandpa usually gets about half way through his stories and we are starting to get close- time to get your game face on and be SERIOUS. "Get your money out so we don't have to wait in line. Got your money, hurry up, you're getting to the front! By the way, Jeff, do you remember a fella that drove all the way up here and forgot his money?" "Yes, grandpa, how many times to you have to remind me I screwed up!", I would say. "What about the time you drove all the way up here and forgot to put tags on your trailer? OH, it's our turn, hurry up! Now, sneak past those guys over there and tell them we have parts to pick up so we can get a better parking spot." I'll leave it at that......we live for this! Ebay may be good, but I'll NEVER get this from ebay! ...on the way home I'll hear the story about when Chevy came out with their over-head and they used to take it out of his buddy's dad's bread truck to race the eninge on the weekend, but they had to have it back in the truck before Monday morning......the guy that owned the bread truck never even knew.....
One of my car buddie's schedules has changed, so I may not be there on Friday. Maybe on Sunday, and see if I can pick up any deals. I'll still be looking for a body for my A frame at this point. Then again, Eastgate/Batavia-Springfield isn't too bad of a drive, maybe I'll go up there twice Anybody else from this area wanna truck-pool, and save a bit of gas money?
I'm not sure about the "end" of the Springfield swaps at the fairgrounds. I'm looking at my reservation paperwork for their October 29-30th swap (they call it the "Winter" meet). Guess things are still on for this year anway.
I'll be there Friday afternoon wandering & tryn' to find a deal. If you guys find a meeting place & time let me know. I may find myself there on saturday or sunday also. Craig
I'll be there early Saturday, but will be happy to hang out late if it means getting to put names to faces. Tell me where to meet and when... Vance
Maybe Denise could over-night some cookies.... Well, let's just set a place and time for each day. I can only be there Sat. but maybe having a common place would be good.... Let's say, noon by the grand stand seating....the seating is loooong but that way people could sit down while they wait for others.....over by the race track..... I'll be there at noon on Sat....usually wearing some flea-market looking white (cooler in the sun) t-shirt...... I need a sign like Booboo......
FY, maybe I could talk my wife into whipping some up for me to bring. I'll be wearing a white tee as well and my Never Dead ballcap, black with a cool skull on the front. I'll look for you around noon in the stands... Vance
