Gettin back on the coupe,Running gl*** fenders ,had planned on running original tank but am looking at maybe a early mustang.Any body using something else?also the tail-lites I been scratchin my head on what to do with them kinda thinking about 39 chevy tail-lites mounted down on the bumper bracketts What are you guys running ?
Sorry for the ****py pic, but I used a flush fit motorcycle fuel fill, and a flush fit LED taillight. Tried to clean up the rear, and be a little different. Maybe seen a little better in my avatar.
39 Ford teardrops are never wrong, maybee seen little too often. I am gonna run 39 Studebaker on mine see pic, but it´s not a bad choice running those 39 chevys you have in mind either.
the coupe looks great carlos! i'm using a stock tank with a 12v sender. i think tanks inc makes an extra-capacity tank. my buddy noah uses the stock taillight and bracket, but he chromed the stem like taillight mount. it looks really cool.
I think if using the stock type stem-taillight, it would be perfunctory to make an inside plate as a backing (form fitted to the shape of the fender) to strengthen the integrity of the 'gl*** fender. That long stem makes a lot of vibrant inertia, not to mention its vulnerability to anything 'just happening to bump it'... (I'm talking about idiots walking around at outdoor shows, etc.)
my 36 was bagged in the rear and had a huge step notch in the frame.... i had an ARE 18 gallon tank up under the floor between the step notch and the rear of the car.... I too was going to run 39 tail light in gl*** fenders, but the plan was to french em
I've got 39's in mine with the stock tank... I added a fuel door into the fender, it may not be super trad, alothough you can use a 41 Ford door and be right on, but it did the job for me... I'll snap a pic when I get home
Most of the references I saw for old time '36 mods, were shortening the tail light stanchions and lowering the head lights. I'm building a '36 roadster with a rumble seat and fibergl*** fenders. I built a stand on the right side that comes up from the frame and supports the tail stanchion mount because it has the step pad in it. Same thing for the step pad at the apex of the fender. On the other side, I used a stock tail light support that you can get from Mac's and other old Ford suppliers and it helps beef up the tail light stanchion area around the gas filler tube. http://www.bobdrake.com/ItemForm.aspx?Item=68-16361
Lookin at 65 mustang tank and bringing the filler neck out where the spare tire mount bolted with a flip down lic plate to hid the filler.but I do like the stock tail light but shortened with the lic plate,all of you guys have some fine cars caint wait been on the back burner to long .
Hey Nate, Gotta say that's one sweet ride you're building. I'm starting on a 36 taildragger of my own,actually. I was wondering, i'm thinking of changing from the stock tail lights and i'm unsure if that would mean having to get a different gas tank, since the filler came up through the stockers. Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated,thanks. Here's a pic of mine;
who was saying that flush fuel doors are not traditional? evojoe not sure? your car looks to not have the stock gas fill location, or the taillights?
Planning on running '37 taillights semi-frenched into the rear fenders on my 3-window. I figure it will emulate the look of the original '36 headlights on chopped stands at the other end. Always thought the stock '36 taillight stalks looked like a couple of wheelbarrow handles! Still not sure how I'm gonna' deal with the fuel filler tho'. Bear
I thought Jack Calori found the neatest solution with '40 Hudson taillights, reversed side-for-side and flipped, so I copied his tail pretty closely (different license mount, different bumper). Unfortunately the Hudson lights are quite difficult to find:
all of the early 40's hudson taillights are great. figuring out taillights is frustrating. i was going to put my filler in the trunk, but no way. since i'm doing more of a 50s deal im totally doing a gas door.
