Ya know I ran shot gun pipes on my Pan when it was still 80" with super glide mufflers welded on and still got harr***ed by the cops. When I went big inches I still ran shotgun pipes but ran them straight and 40" long and never ever had a problem after that. I still don't know what the problem was but it sounded more crisp with the long pipes and no mufflers.
I'm gonna like it here. Nothing sounds better in the Harley world than a stroked Shovelhead with drag pipes...unless it be my wife's '85 Superglide with the 2" drags. Back in the day I had a 6 cyl. Gremlin with a Clifford Research split header and Thrush side pipes. The announcer at Beeline drag strip used to love the way that car sounded. Nowadays, my F100 has short gl***packs and pipes exiting in front of the back axle. Sweet and mellow...til you hit the loud pedal.
Well you may do well, you like scooters and you run your pipes with gl*** packs dumping on front of the rear tires. It just doesn't get any better than that.
I can't seem to find a pic that'll show the exhaust, but they come about 2" out past the edge of the step and are angled down toward the ground. No heating the back tires up with the exhaust for me, I'd rather do it with a burn out. I was fully prepared to re-do the pipes if they were too loud(yeah, I'm old)but it sounds just fine so I left it.
QFT from the Death Valley poet. flattie, you're quite an astute guy for being such a young man. astute not *** toot
If you're wanting it to rack off when you're slowing down, then you need to go with a high rearend ratio so it spins the motor faster when you're coasting. My ponycar does that because it has a 3.55, did it even more when it had 4.11's. Or just drive around in 2nd gear. The bomb lowrider guys run split manifolds, and 1" pipes. Keep them straight as possible from engine to the bumper. Loud is obnoxious, you'd get more respect with a deep sound. Go with the longest gl*** packs you can fit in under the car, and get them to the rear as far as possible. You'll get a nice deep rumble.
Not always. Sometimes they just sound like an old tractor. Oh no look under the bridge, better guard your goats fellas we got us a troll on the loose.
I guess it is but it's a fun little sausage box, well , as fun as 1100 CC's can be. No radio, no heater, but as Ferdie Porsche said, "You listen to the sound of the road not a radio. A lot of people don't know that the Speedsters were brought out as the el- chepo bargain ba*****t model of the Porsche line at the time to compete with the MG's, Sunbeams etc. that's why they didn't have all the bells and whistles on them.
Hey to me ifin you aint into loud pipes YOU aint a True HotrodderBut there is a difference between sounding good and **** short portors and a split will get you there
Let's see. Used to have a 261 in my 37 chev PU. Used a set of cheapie car headers from a swap meet, all the tubing and burned out gl***packs came from the dumpster sat a buddies muffler shop. With a high "C" piano wire thru the pipe- each side- and tightened up, it would set off every alarm in downtwon Walla Walla for blocks. Dogs hated it, it was reasonably quiet inside because the pipes went all the way out back. What fun!!!
Well, as long as folks keep adding to it, it will never die Deuces, I was young and foolish once. You can't tell me you never were. No disrespect intended.
