INVADES is a strong word. It was more like we eased in like a thief in the night and tried not to stir up the locals too much. I don't know if we accomplished that especially friday night but I guess I should start at the beginning.

I knew as soon as I got off that family vacation and when I checked my PM's to find a invitation to this years Revolution that I'd definitely be in Austin November 3rd come hell or high water. I also had a very busy month coming up with the TRJ Revival, Hershey, Race Of Gentlemen and now the Revolution. I have been fortunate enough to have some friends that have helped out by tagging along on these trips and they have also helped set up shop and vend for the company I started called Sugar City Speed Shop. This show was no different and a fellow Iron Lord named *****er decided that he's ride along with me for the trip. Skeptical of whether I'd make it back or not knowing right off the bat that he's a belligerent ***hole when he's drinking, I decided this would probably be the most eventful trip of the year and told him I'd pick him up Thursday morning at 6am.

Thursday came and I was there by 6:30am and all loaded up with my '35 on a trailer and a bed full of merch to sell at the show. We got some coffee and started what was to be a long journey. Before we knew it we were in Atlanta, then Montgomery and Mobile. Stopped off at Baton Rouge for some Alligator Fajitas at a Mexican restaurant that used a ****roach as it's mascot. Tasty stuff...... We decided we felt good enough to push through and since my gas gauge kept dropping like a lead weight we didn't go far before we had to stretch our legs anyways. The result was a 22hr straight thru drive that was surprisingly not too bad. *****er kept me entertained the whole time I was driving with his Archie Bunker world view and his Detroit manners.

We arrived at DREDDY BEAR's at 3:30am the next morning after that long drive. He lives on the outside of the Austin and offered up a couple beds for us to use while in town. This also meant that he would be our chaperone throughout the visit....which he may have regretted Friday night. Anyways we got about 5 hours of sleep and felt great come the next day. Dreddy decided to take us to the Salt Lick for some traditional Texas style BBQ. I'm not a huge fan of BBQ but I have to say that place was pretty awesome! We stuffed ourselves and shot the **** before he had to go back to work.

That's when *****er and I decided to take the '35 down to S. Congress to see what was shaking. We were greeted with a lot of traffic down there and seemed to be moving at a crawls pace. My car has been running really cool up until then but as we didn't move I noticed it starting to climb. By the time it got to 210º I knew I should just pull over on the side streets and let it cool while we checked things out on the street. Turns out there was a festival called FUN FUN FUN kicking off and that's where the traffic stemmed from. None the less we had a good time checking out a few shops and eating ice cream at Big Top. After a few hours we decided that we should head back to Dreddy's and relax before the open house at Austin Speed Shop. Well luck would have it that when we got back to the car it wouldn't start. So we tried to push start it but then the fuel in my carbs decided they wanted to set themselves ablaze but it was nothing more then a little flame and some smoke. Scared the **** out of me and I couldn't react fast enough to feel confident in doing it again. Pushed the car back in a parking spot and called DREDDY to come get us. We grabbed the battery and headed to a parts store to get it charged.

While waiting we got to see some of the locals including this kid who downed a whole bottle of Dust It to get high while in the Taco Bell parking lot. Dreddy Bear took the video and *****er provided the soundtrack of him laughing like a little girl. After a few minutes he picked his head up and said "I'VE GOT SUPERSONIC HEARING!!!!".

    <iframe width="640" height="480" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/CIWkhtHDigQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Once the battery was charged we headed back and installed it. Car fired right up and we decided we should head for the Speed Shop since it was time for the party and that would be probably the best place to figure it all out. When we got there, there was already a bunch of cars so we backed the car in and decided to forget about it for a bit while we enjoyed the open house.

A.S.S as usual blew everyone away with the work they were putting out. From the '32 5w that Bob was working on to the Zephyr that Luck killed the metal work we were all walking around with our jaws on the floor. Everyone we met was great and we were having a great time which meant *****er wanted to drink more and more......then more and more. By the end of the open house he was in rare form and getting very close and loud to everyone. After most of everyone left the straggler and Austin Speed Shop crew decided that some fried chicken was in order so we all hopped in our cars and headed over to Lucy's. That was really cool because it was my first experience of driving my '35 in a pack of old cars.

When we got there, *****er was a mess and still drinking. I was getting heated because he hugging Bob Bleed and being so loud and obnoxious to everyone. I had to keep apologizing to everyone and I could even see it in Dreddy's face that he was starting to regret chaperoning us around. Now this all probably sounds like I am ragging on *****er but it's important to the story. Once we were done with fried Chicken we all parted ways and I spoke my piece with *****er on the way home back to DB's.

The next morning we woke up a little late and we needed to get our **** in gear and head out asap. Since Sugar City Speed Shop was not only vending at the Revolution but Sponsoring it, I wanted to be there early and we were late as it is. Fired up the '35 which had no problems and got going. It was a really nice drive to the show since my car loves doing 70-75mph on the thru way. When we got there there were only a few cars so I met up with Ryan and he parked me behind the bleachers. I then left the car for the rest of the day and headed to the vending area where we set up shop with *****er even hung over.

As we got the spot all set up and ready to vend cars kept pouring in and they kept getting better and better it seemed. I could tell early on this was not going to be a disappointing day. Soon the boys from Austin Speed Shop showed up and said hello and because *****er was such an ***hole the night before, we all had something to laugh about right off the bat and it made for a common cause which is DO NOT LET *****ER DRINK at all through out the day haha!! I don't think I would have met those dudes on the level I did if it were not for *****er's antics and because of that, I know love and appreciate all of them dudes. Weird how things work out but maybe *****er was onto something because by the time we left Austin, I really enjoyed their company and they made the trip along with the rest of the locals.

Here's some pics from the show. I will tell you right off the bat that I did not get a pic of all the cars and I did not get a pic of 3 cars that really inspire me. CHIRS CASNY's Model A Coupe, BRIAN B***' '29 Roadster, and D.W.'s Blown coupe are missing from these photos. Chris and Brian's because they were parked in front of the bands and I felt weird about going up there and being the *** with the iPhone taking pics. D.W.'s was for good reason which was there were people crowding it so I could not get a good shot. Rest ***ure that those were some of my favorites there.....

Ryan's Coupe. I have been wanting to see this thing up close for a long time. It definitely did not disappoint. My favorite part was the ****pit.

Austin Speed Shop's new build. Lots of cool details and a presence like not other. I also heard it ran like a ****d ape!

Jesse's Roadster. Flathead's sound pretty amazing but this one sounds even better! Another cool car with details and inspiration that you could pour over all day.

This was a really cool coupe. Kenny wasn't a man of a lot of words but that dude was deep in though all weekend and I think most of it was him taking it all in. This survivor ruled....

Bob's Roadster...So very awesome and owned by a guy that loves hot rods more then anybody I've ever met. You can tell this man has this in his blood. He also is a rad dude and I had the pleasure of hanging with him off and on throughout the weekend.

After the show we made a detour to Austin Speed Shop since we had some stuff we were relaying to them. We hung out there for a while before deciding that we all should go out to eat.

Once there, my car proceeded to act up again and not charge. We decided to jump start it again after eating at Salvation Pizza. Thanks Luke for picking up the tab buddy. That was mighty rad of ya!!!!!

THEN We headed to Top Notch Burger afterwards since that was the meeting place after the show from what we heard. When we got there we found a ton of cars still there and pulled in to do some more hanging. There I got to see Brian B***' roadster up close and it was everything and more from what I expected. Also got to talk to Blake and D.W. there which was really nice since they were great and good dudes.

It was great to meet you and *****er. Sitting across from him at Lucy's Friday night was a memorable experience to say the least. I'm just glad it wasn't my lap he spilled his beer on  :D
In all seriousness, it was good hanging out with you guys. Thanks for sharing some shade at your booth on Sat. Glad you made it home safely and congrats on the award. Love your '35!

  10. Sounds like an awesome time J.J..

After getting invites the last 2 years, it kills me not to be able to make it down.
Why does Austin have to be so far away. Some day I'll make it. Until them I'll just live through you.

Thanks for taking the time to post for all us wanna be's.

It was awesome having you at the house brother. Anytime and I hope you know it! Don't razz *****er too much, he was just having fun and that's what it's all about! Besides, Mitch took to him right away:

I'm glad you saw what Austin's really like. It's why I live here. The people are amazing.

And it was nice to see a running hot rod in my driveway for a change..

    Love and respect bro!

    Thanks bud!!! Great meeting you!

Yeah he know's it all worked out so I don't have to razz him at all. Plus as we were leaving Austin a huge bug flew into the b pillar of my truck and exploded in his face leaving this goo smeared on the side of his face. I horse laughed his *** so hard telling him that was worth the price of him coming alone!!!! hahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!

    Thanks again brother!

Thanks!!! Yeah I had this gut wrenching feeling about it after it happened. I thought the same thing and prayed that my son doesn't get caught up in that later on in life. Sad.....but in the moment, very funny which is terrible I know.

Also, they are all desaturated 78-85% so none are selectively colored. It's just that sometimes when red or yellow is on the car it looks like I targeted that color. If you look at all the photos the gr*** should be green on all of them if but just a hint. I appreciate the kinds even though these were all taken and edited on my phone (I've become a slack *** in the camera department lately). I figure if they're not going to print and are only going to be used here in the thread then there's no point to shooting a real high resolution right? At least that's what I keep telling myself. :D:D:D:D

It's a boarder in this iPhone program. It's a throwback to the proofs I had to review in my publishing days and makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. I like it and I'm sticking to it damn it.

    Thanks JJ!
Your bud *****er reminds me of why I don't drink Wild Turkey anymore, according to reports, after downing a bottle I became one (Wild Turkey).

  30. Too much of a good thing. They are great shots, but I think I looked at too many proofs in my paste-up days too. Too many marker fumes too, I used to look like the huffer in the vid.
