i'm not sure if its me or my info. i have the timing cover off of my 308 and i can't seem to line up the timing mark on the cam and crank gear? Are they suppose to meet or be opposing,i'm not sure. Can someone please explain this to me?
According to MoToRs, if it's a gear drive, there are two marks on the timing gear and one on the crank gear. The one on the crank should br right in between the two. If it's a timing chain, the two marks should be pointing to sbout 1:30 and there should be 14 pins (of the chain) IN BETWEEN the marks.
alex burr of the hudson club has put a lot of the manuals online for free. you should be able to see a 51 shop manual here. http://hetclub.org/burr/lithomepage.htm
thanks for all the info, especially the link to the online manuels. i would like to thank the person that made all that info available for us to use.I have another question,is there any way to decode the serial number for this car? Model is 7A and the serial is 85826. I'm in the proccess of determining if its worthwhile to restore the engine and where i can get parts which seems to me to be pretty bleak. Any input would be appreciated, thx's again

You should join the Hudson-Essex-Terraplane club. Great group of folks and a storehouse of information.
+1 on the HET Club. Alex may be able to help you decode your # here: http://www.classiccar.com/forum/categories/hudson And more parts here: http://21stcenturyhudson.net/products2.htm http://www.hudsonmotorcarco.com/
Mr Burr has done us all a great favor by posting those online. don't give up on getting parts, but the hudson club is going to be your major outlet to get parts, it's amazing to me how much stuff is still out there, and how much people have saved. i thought 7a was 1951 hudson hornet and the serial number was the number sequence it was made. 7 being for hornet and a for 1951. i may be wrong there.
