I have a 1956 ford mainline 2door sedan and when I got it it didn't have the door or quarter trims. Did the mainline have stainless trim on the doors? If so what did they look like? Anyone have any pics? Or know where I can get them?

My mainline is a '53 but it didn't have any stainless on the door panels. It's possible that '56 was the same way, you may have to get some from a Fairlane.

It's been so damn long since I had a 56 [black vicky hardtop] that I can't remember if they're different than my latest 55 2 door sedan...was a fairlane so they may be different..hope this helps.[IMG]

Yes but only a few inches on the door. This is the Mainline trim.

Mine left the factory as a Customline but I'm de-tuning it to be a bargain ba*****t Mainline.

The thick triangle shaped piece on the 1/4 panel will have no writing in it. The thin chrome on the 1/4 panel is the same for a Customline or a Mainline. I have had a hard time finding Mainline trim. (I'm cheap) I may have to use my Customline triangles. As you can tell by the number of responses not many people will know the difference.:D

OOPs I thought I read interior but got distracted by the other posts.

My, one trim level up Customline has no interior door trim, so I'm pretty sure a Mainline won't have any. It might be be only one color also but check with a Ford interior supplier to be sure.

With the MainLine there is a small piece that is polished stainless on the doors, here is a pic of mine.

Mainlines had no stainless trim on the door panels, for that matter they didn't even come with arm rests. I thought I had a pic and don't, but a search found these pics of a 4 door which is the same style . . .

Thanks guys! I know what the exterior is and looks like. I have all the exterior stainless for my car. I was wondering about the interior and now you guys helped me with that. My last question (hopefully) some mainlines had an extra stainless piece that ran under the long quarter trim piece to the rear of the car that divided that section so it could be painted two tobe. Where can i get those? Were they a factory option or?

The second strip was factory and included with cars equipped with custom two tone. Regular two tone the second color was just the roof. Not sure you could order the strip without it.

Oh, and the other half of your question - other than one "sitting and rotting" in one of the older wrecking yards your best bet would be asking some of the 56 Ford vendors to check their trim stash.

AS has already been stated, the mainline was the base model, and came with no armrest. Some came with no chrome on the quater panel at all, and some came with no chrome around the windshield and rear window. I think that any chrome was a upgrade (option) on the mainline.

I'm sure you will have to find a mid 50s Ford used part vendor. I was able to find a complete heater delete kit from one. Try Norbert Doll 405-372 6606 email ndollfordparts@provalue.net

He knows his stuff. He knew and had every part that I needed to eliminate my heater. A lot more than just 1 dash delete plate.

If you want to upgrade your Mainline door panels I have the trim from a 2 dr Customline, I think its the same as the higher end models as well. I think I also have the arm rest too.

Looks just like the one pictured below.

Mine had the deluxe heater. Ford made a very cool one with the blower motor mounted in the firewall plate and not on the fender with a small switch for the dash. One step up from no heater. Pretty rare.

I had to make the small plate at 1 o'clock to cover the hole for the heater control valve. It was a knock out from the factory so it's plain to see that my car came with the deluxe heater.

So yours was a "non fresh air" heater?

Mine was the fresh air heater. This is the factory heater delete plate for the firewall. I have no picture of the fresh air block off.

The short dash delete plate is for the heater. The long one is for the radio. I have found better matching paint for them so they don't look so odd.

Oh se mine has that plate but has a switch in the center of it I believe. It was a non fresh air heater. I know there is another name for it. Like recirculating or something similar to that

In 56 Ford had two heaters available, the Recirculating Air Heater and the MagicAire System. The recirc heater was only recirculating air and had a single knob in the dash: turn for blower motor and pull out to switch to defrost. You turned on or off the amount of heat by a water control valve under the hood. The MagicAire was a more "modern" setup that included fresh air if desired and all the controls operated by levers in the dash panel.

And as stated earlier talk to Norbert. He has a ton of parts and is as knowledgeable as anyone. And regarding your paint divider lower strips, I might know of some. I'll check on Friday.
