Ding ding ding! We have a winner! 1929 Packard to be exact, but I guess '30 is the same.

Flowmeister, send me your shirt size and shipping address to: basskustoms@yahoo.com

Thanks for playing guys, that was fun!

Me too, I agonized over this every day, one of the searches I did was for crankcase vents but it wasn't specific enough...:)

  3. Ha Ha, yes!
    Thanks guys,
I get a little tenacious about things like that,
spent a lot of time on Google images.

Thanks Brian for providing some fun!

  5. Shit Keith, I was on that bike and didn't even figure that one out!

Packards had such cool little details, check out their 30s defroster vents.

Awesome I litteraly might loose my job over the 3 hours I spent on google looking up air inlets, manifolds, and different european and bike engines.

Either way Brian...This car is killer, and I love the way you smothed that engine, perfect for a show rod. Was that all done with grinding and cutting wheels, or did you have to do some of it by hand? Your choice of that blue color was the perfect off set to that chrome, from a distance it looks white, I bet the reflection off the chrome is killer! Please keep us posted when you take you Winter Vacation!

Rad . . . and SO spot on! I, too, am a roadster guy. Why the hell else would I actually chose to drive my roadster in the rain and just this morning on 30 degree weather!? Love it!

One of the best threads I have ever read right next to your thread of driving your coupe across the west!

  10. Awesome car, awesome story.

  11. Thanks for the update and congrats on getting it on the road. Sad to hear about the 306. I remember following how you smoothed the block and heads. It sure looked slick with paint on it though! I actually have had a progress picture of the roadster as the wallpaper on my work computer. I'm glad to see it's getting some miles put on it. Jealous is an understatement. I'm working to get my Nailhead powered Chevy TF pickup on the road by this spring as my daily. Thanks again for the update and the story. Keep us posted on the Wade coupe and your coupe as well. Can't wait to see yours in paint.

  12. Wow! I really enjoyed reading through your experiences. Hopefull one day i will get to do something like that in my old truck!

What a cool story, and a wonderful hot rod. Keep this great stuff coming, Mr. Bass!

  15. Very nice roadster Brian, the more you look at it, the more cool details it has!
ps> Enjoyed the road trip also!:D

  16. Bass, I was just curious about the lines from your fuel log to your carbs. Are those copper lines?

I've read a lot on the debates back and forth on the pros and cons of using copper lines (they break, bad for the gas, etc.). Wondered what you were using and if you had any input?

Yes, they are copper. Since the fuel block is rigidly mounted to the intake, I think they are safe for the most part.

I've read the same things about copper lines failing, and I suppose that over time vibrations and harmonics could lead to a crack somewhere...but with about 3000 miles on the car now I don't see anything wrong. I'll keep an eye on them.

  18. Interesting. I hadn't thought about the fact that the fuel block was hard mounted to the intake. Seems like everything should vibrate in 'sync' then.

Thanks for getting back to me, and best of luck. This was a great thread and an even better roadster.

  19. Great story, great pictures. What a beautiful car!

    Ask and ye shall recieve:

I bought these a little over a month ago, and just did a quickie straighten and polish job on them. I got them mounted up today finally. They'll need more work to be perfect, but I think these are going to be the final wheel/cap set-up for the 'finished' version of the car.

The caps are old aftermarket 16" Lyon's.

    Brian,
You nailed the late 50's look with this car perfectly.......How do you like that transmission? Also what year jeep did the top come from? And is it a direct bolt on and plug the side holes, Or do you have to do other work on it to make it work?
