So I just moved to Vallejo Ca. I am curious if there are anyone that lives near me that is into hot rods with a lot of experience. In p***ing I talked to some old timer telling me about a club that has a hangar in Mare Island or something like that where you can use a lift and some other people have cars their that they work on there.. Sounds cool as hell. Any body have any info on this. Seemed like a ghost story. Please let me know thank you.
matt seret at seret speed and custom is on lemon street in vallejo. he is a great guy with ridiculous skills. its magical.
I used to live in Benicia, and worked in Benicia and Vallejo. There seems to be a decent amount in that area, and the bay area in general. I worked at an autoparts place for a while and had quite a few customers that would pull up in hot rods, customs, and tons of 60s cars. I was surprised at how many high school kids in Benicia had restored muscle cars. I miss that area, its nice up there.
Also look at Bailey's up in American Canyon and LJ's Speed and Machine in south Napa off Kaiser Rd. All are reputable and have a great bunch of refereneces. Normbc9
Brewsir used to be a customer where I worked. I was lucky enough to check out batfink while he was building it. There was also a guy who lived in my neighborhood that had a couple mustang fast backs, and a 34 ford tudor, fenderless. It was a neat little car. Honestly probably the first real street driven beater hot rod that I had seen in person. It was inspiring.
Vallejo hss a few events during the year. What comes to mind first is: Fun Ford Sunday, September at Fairgrounds Packard and Cl***ic Car Swap Meet, September, Event Center NorCal Knockout -Nostalgic Rock'nRoll Bike and Car Show, July, Fairgrounds Benicia Car Show , Waterfront, next door
Not a ghost story, the club he is speaking of is The Boyz Under the Hood. They are comprised of all years, makes, models and styles of cars and have around 90 members. Im not really sure if anyone from their club is on the HAMB. The Swanx, on the other hand, is a traditional style Hot Rod and Custom club that was originally started in 1956, then re-formed in 1998. Right now we have a dozen members. We concentrate on the late '40's to early '60's style builds and have a pre 1961 vehicle cutoff date. Both groups regularly invite interested partys to drop in to a meeting. Its a good way to meet like minded people. There is a lot of knowledge in either group, just depends on what style of car you are into.
Wow, That was awesome. Thank you for all the posts. Yes I would love to get into the fold around here. i will be working out my shop. Buying a welder soon and some other tools to make hot rodding easier. Chop 32 do you know of someone that has a lift that would be up for lending it if need be???? I heard that Boyz under the hood may have something like that in Mare Island? I still would like to keep this thread going. Does anybody go on cruises to certain destinations. I am from upstate ny and my family would take cruises to drive ins with other rodders.
Yes they do Jeff...its the First Friday of every month. Rosies in Benicia started up again too, every Tuesday.
3001 Bayshore Rd, Benicia... just down from the Interstate Battery warehouse. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Go with the SWANX...they have been the host club at Billetproof in Antioch... One Sunday I tooled up in my cool '55 F100, some young honiock 'jacked me up' in front...He was all jacked off about my Romeo Palemides wheels...(pre-Tork Thrusts, by 2 years... 1954 models, 2-piece with 5 spokes & hubcaps) Some SWANX guys came up and told the drip to vaporize...I was fairly '******ed' in...flanked by cl***y SWANX members. They had my back...

The Swanx CC here in Vallejo are having their annual Fall Fiasco in October. You outta check it out. A kool lil carshow for sure!
I remember my days in Vallejo, early 70s in HS. Ran a 69 SC/Rambler got off a used car lot. Lots of cruising back then mostly Springs Road. John Flyn (called him John Fly) had a ratty 56 Chev, small block 265 with duel 4s 4 speed and 4.88s but man that thing screamed. Pendergast had a station, drove a 58 or 59 Chev Impala with a tilt front end, SBC. Lots of 70 Camero Z28s and SS cars. There was a Brotherhood of Street Racers in town, mostly drove Charger RTs, SS Chevelles, Big block Vetts, some really hot street cars. Use to street race out past Blue Rock Springs
Bailey Brothers back in the day, they were into roundy round racing. There was also and gas station at the end of Springs Road, they ran a 56 Chevy MP car.
'67, stationed at Mare Island. Patch's drive-in, & the guy with the chrome shop. Built Chevelle ... candy maroon, white inside with an ocelot ... he never raised the windows. And the guy from Novato with the '55 Ford pickup on a '56 Chev frame. We're talking LOW ...
A lot of Navy guys at Mare Island. Some with really cool cars. Mostly at the Nuke school. Had one guy with a red 69 Formula S, big block car with painted white fender well headers. That car would scoot. The local Dodge dealer had their share of PX buys from Vietnam Nam. I know a Marine fresh from Nam picked his 69 SS Camero from the local Chevy dealer.
