Judging from the photo in Stu's link the car was an XK120 roadster not a drop head coupe. The roadsters had the chrome windshield surround.

agree with rrbrucea, I was going to mention that it's known as an OTS (open top speedster) in Jaguar parlance.

  6. Drop head coupe = roadster/convertible

Fixed head coupe = hard roof

Splitting hairs here, but the XK120 drop head coupes had roll up windows and a steel windshield frame that was part of the body. The XK120 roadsters had a separate chrome windshield frame and side curtains.

    Drop head coupe:

zackly, and the manufacturer's name for the roadster was OTS

  9. Thanks for that clarification Bruce. So the movie car is a roadster indeed ( or OTS as stated).

What can I say, I kinda have a "thing" for Jaguars. This was my dad's drop head coupe. And I would LOVE to have an XK120. Make mine a roadster (ots). :D

It's always fun comparing British and US names for things. Their hood is different than ours as is their bonnet and boot. And don't even get me started on Whitworth wrenches.

  12. Being from England myself I can understand. My Father had a thing for strange British cars like Jowetts etc. and his first car was Singer Lemans Coupe. He fell in love with American iron when he saw a 58 Fairlane in Newcastle on Tyne when he was a teenager. He got to endulge himself when we emmigrated here owning huge Mercury's, but still he liked his tweedy English cars! Jags are gorgeous.

There are always exceptions depending on the manufacturer. My old 47 Triumph 1800 Roadster is actually a drop head but the manufacturer called it a roadster.
