I know the flood overwhelmed many and many need help. I am flying in this weekend to help my friend and her two kids. Their house flooded 5' and they have nowhere to go but stay in the house. They are on the upper floor. Her son has asthma. The house smells, the drywall needs to be torn out on the lower floor. I have no help but I am flying from LA and am going to try to do it myself because someone has to. If you can help and if we get enough guys we can knock this out in half a day. The house is in M***apequa. I know many need help and gas is hard to find but if you are nearby and can help me out I would be greatful The plan is this Saturday. If you can help pm me and I will give you the details Thank you Joe PS Thank you to Ryan for giving me the go ahead to post this thread
hope that they have power and heat with trying to stay there, too cold to be without. make sure that she has registered for help from FEMA, and local support systems. Good Luck
btt I hope you get some help from local hambers. These people that got wiped out, are all being forgotten by most people that have never lived it themselves, I am sure.
You can forget about help from FEMA. My Son lives in Vermont and was wiped out by Hurricane Irene last year. He had a paid in full Federal Flood Insurance Policy. As of right now he hasn't received on dime from FEMA.
FEMA is a hit and miss. When we had the 94 quake here, my house sustained about 100k in damage, Fema gave me $300, my neighbor did not even have a crack in his drywall and he got 8k. He thought it was hilarious. I was not concerned as I had insurance but my senior citizen neighbor got nothing and her home was uninhabitable. The earthquake was bad, difficult situation but this is so much worse. The floods and the colder weather will take its toll on many. The destruction is unbelievable. Anyway back to the topic, I got one brave soul so far! Even if you can only give me an hour it would help. I know the gas is an issue but I have heard that a few stations are opening now. Good luck to all the folks suffering.
FEMA can take forever. Capps, That is good of you. If I were flush I would offer to jump a train and meet you there. Maybe someone from up state can help out.
That's great news. It's been pretty cold since last night, but it will warm up this weekend pretty good....maybe 60 day/45 night. L/I must be almost as cold as here. Good luck with the project.
Good luck with the repairs. Make sure to dry out the inside of the walls to prevent mold from growing which could cause the asthma to get worse.
Think i can come by. Pm me and ill let u knw. Got to see if my aunt still needs help and if i have gas Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
what day do you need help im local also .and i can swing a hammer just gimmie the details and ill see if im free for that time
Well I lost lorodz but picked up a zombie...........lol Saturday is the day and lo could not make it, can still use all the help I can get' thanks folks
Great thing you are doing here. Glad to see others clsoe by can pitch in. My son is a recovery agent for Paul Davis Restorations in KY. He told me that you need ot make sure you can get some drying machines in there after you are done to remove all the moisture from the remaining structutre to prevent follow on issues with mold etc. His firm has 15 crews in the area helping out. It is a monumental disaster. Wish you and the other fellas good luck with the project on Saturday.
Bump for today.....I fly out of LA tomorrow am and into another storm. Hope to get some more HAMBers for saturday thanks
Very light snow and slight sleeting right now, 100 miles north of L.I., but it is supposed to get warm again by the weekend.
