I know some one did it. Do you have to cut the inner fender walls for the exhaust pipes or squeeze em in er"
Inner fender would have to be modified. Steering box is in the way too; a rack& pinion setup from a Cavilier is doable. If you're set on that motor consider a Dakota or other front clip too. It's hard enough to fit a small block in those.
I have one in my 50 dodge it was not easy to do. I have put small block mopar motor in a 50 plymouth ,you have to offset the motor. You will have to cut the shelf the inner fenders. If you move the big block forward you can get past the steering box. Sorry can't get my pics to load have some of how i set the motor back and moved the steering .
Have a 440 in my 48. Engine compartment about the same as your car. Sotck front suspension but moved the firewall.
I have a 440 in a '49 dodge. Mine has a mustang II in it, so I don't know about the stock front suspension, but we had to recess the firewall and modify the inner fenders. It has Sanderson block huggers on it.
I used a rear steer Camaro stub on my 51. (383 / A833). I seem to remember that the factory left side exhaust would have worked, but we went with fenderwell headers. A truck pan solves a lot of the crossmember clearance issues regardless of what frame you are using.
