  1. I didn't win a trophy... I'm never comin' back to this show.

I'm gonna take my car home and put it in the garage for the rest of the summer. Maybe everyone will forget the shame I've suffered.

Better, still... I'll cry to the world that people like someone elses car better. :(

  2. Is this som-bitch gonna post a pic of his prized POS or what? Hey I dont build hot rods just to be "unfinished". As for me I build rods that are ment to go fast and nothing else, just the way they were from the start. If your not scared of scratching your billet wheels or getting it a little dusty, bring your car down and lets go. Gonna be a shame to see ya get shut down and piss all over your nice tweed seats.

Come on Ron, You know it was Genuine Miller Draft. That Corona shit gave me a headache. Plus I had to look for you or Dave to open it for me. Give me a real twist off cap when I'm drinking, I don't have time to look for an opener. Plus when Dave sliced me a lime, I didn't know what he was cutting just before he sliced a lime. Could be anything.[/QUOTE]

Paul, you know I never clean my toenails before I drink Coronas. Besides, that Corona shit will kill anything!

  5. Holy shit, Zenor... I think there, really, is something to that HAMB-fresh feeling thing.

Now, if we could just get a HAMB whine deadener. That would be great.

    Mr. Hodges:

You have obviously NOT done your summer reading assignment. It became apparent when, in your first diatribe, you mentioned "like-minded Street Rodders".

While I maintain a footprint in both camps, this is NOT a street-rodder website. It is a traditional HOT-RODDER web site.

The vast majority of this website immediately associated you with the dipshit that objected to the Deuce roadster with the primered rear fender being parked next to him at the big-bucks show "because it wasn't finished". When told it was the late Gray Baskerville's, he didn't know who they were talking about.

In my own case, I paid $20.00 extra for my 2005 "Art" calendar by Peter Vincent which included the January shot of Ken's Deuce coupe.

You have expended all credit hours for this quarter. You may submit for readmittance when you’ve completed the necessary research.

  9. Okay wait a minute...

Billet's not traditional??? That stuff's been around since like the '80's!

And we're supposed to DRIVE our cars?

This is too much for me to handle.:p

Al. You don't go into someones house, take a shit and then not flush the toilet and walk out the door. Please post a picture of your "pride and joy" so we can give you credit where credit is due. Why are you looking for praise from those that are not into billet?

Looks like you got your feeling hurt because the dollars you invested didn't give you the return you were looking for. Don

I'm not trying to defend anyone but the old ways? Maybe some flair of the old ways would be more accurate. Have you seen any 50s built rods? Most of them were pretty crude. They didn't have plasma cutters, mig and tig and darn few english wheels, no cnc ect. Now there are still a few of us that can hammer weld, do lead work ect. but just slapping a flat head in a model A isn't building a period correct rod. And yhe only guys in primer were too broke to afford paint, it wasn't the style.

Willow, I appreciate all of that. I completely understand the process. I have seen many cars built in the 50s and 60s. Some nice, some crude. I'm not trying to defend any particular paint job. Primer, paint, whatever. I realize that most primered cars from then were in primer because they were in progress. Nicely crafted cars can be built with basic tools.

I am not trying to defend any particular 'look.' I am trying to defend the CRAFT of BUILDING a real hot rod. Whatever your means, whatever your interpretation, I don't care. I used the references that I did in order to convey that thought. A real tailor, a real stone mason, a real printer, a real ARTIST all of them in their own right, using real tools to create something that only existed in their mind's eye until they MADE it. That's what this is all about.

I know that first hand experience is irreplaceable, but at 36, I'm old enough to know that you don't speak unless you have a clue. I like to think I have a clue. I have been studying traditionally built cars for many years, and getting advice from many people who were there then. Each of them has their own aesthetic, but they all know what it takes to BUILD the real deal. That is all I am trying to defend. The Rolling Bones guys, and the guys they hang out with, BUILD their cars. That is what it's about. Nothing more, nothing less.

  13. Interesting so far.

Never piss to windward I guess.

Aside from all that, could someone post a pic of Ken Schmidt's car and perhaps some of the rolling bones cars?

    Just curious.

It's obvious Mr. Hodges is not gonna post a pic of his car, but I would like to see at least part of what he's talking about.

I like the Stone Mason reference.
Building cars from aftermarket kits is sorta like building a wall from stacking blocks. Yes, you do have a very nice wall, but you ain't no STONE MASON unless you use the basic raw material!

Catalogue parts make a very nice Rod, but you still ain't no HOT RODDER unless you use the basic raw material!

The best way to measure a man's (or better yet, your own) "EGO" is to have someone critisize or comment on your art project, creation or look and see if you take it in a mature and positive manner as it's one man's opinion and nothing more! If your feelings get butt hurt at what people think, your huge "EGO" will definitely let you know. You'll get this hateful feeling inside, you'll become defensive, then want to attack what ever he or she has created themselves.

If you don't ever want to ever hear any negative critisizm about your car, then "keep it in the garage", it's impossible to please everyone ...no matter how much ching-ching went into the bling-bling! If your going to put your car out there for viewing pleasure, prepare yourself for some to say... your car is not that impressive to me.

Here's a pictorial of the trip.

It's all AV8Paul's fault.:D They've been across country more times than a Mayflower truck. As soon as he goes along for the ride, all hell breaks loose.:D

I guess the "My car is better than your car" people are everywhere. It must be a lonely life.

The sad part is I might have liked his car...not knowing his attitude.

  17. Thanks Tommy.

    I take it #525 is Ken's car?
    It's a good looker.
Says "Hot Rod" without trying too hard . . . it just looks right.

I really like the black roadster highboy with white top.
    Especially the top shape.
This time around I plan to make my own irons, folders if it works out, but I will use the re-pro oak bows.
Just somethin about having a little wood in the top frame that makes it look right.

I can't criticize the other guys car since he's not showing it, but he does seem to lack manners and good taste....

Well I like the rolling bones cars and most of the people I meet around the country that are into this kind of stuff for the most part are pretty cool but I have to say I talked to these guys at last years la roadster show and I have the same impression, they came off very rude and arrogant to me, I like their cars but dont have a lot of use for them and their better than attitudes. I'm pretty laid back and get along with everyone and dont see a need for arrogance no matter how cool your car is.

well, I'm sorry the guys came off rude and arrogant. I see them, as many do- true hot rodders that are about the friendships they make. Tons of guys that never met them before came up, hung out, drank beers with the guys. So, I don't see the bad side. This is me talking before any talk of work-hell even talk about going to Bonneville. I'm just a punk kid who happens to be friends with a friend of theirs, and They made me feel like an equal when I hungout with them. We've been friends since. I've sat back and watched them talk to anyone whos talked to them. One gentleman came up over the course of the week and measured the frontend setups. Keith and Ken sat down with the guy, talked everything over so He could go home and do a similar set up, AND, how many people that come up to hangout end up sitting in one of the cars to see what it feels like, etc. I'm not talking customers here, just Hot rodders that came up to check the cars out. So, like I said, Maybe Cali was different, but don't judge them on that alone. Get to know the guys, and you'll see the real side. Hell, even email Ken...

    Two quotes come to mind.

"The best way to gauge another man's intelligence is by how much he agrees with your point of view"
    Flemming Pickering

"Self importance is our greatest enemy. Think about it - what weakens us is feeling offended by the deeds and misdeeds of our fellow men. Our self-importance requires that we spend most of our lives offended by someone"
    Don Juan

I believe it is time for Mr. Hodges to exit the HAMB.
