F.A.S.T. is neither cheap nor traditional but it is about as good as it gets in aftermarket ECUs....

I can tell you to stay away from Mass Flow. I have had nothing but trouble . The harness they provided was wired wrong. They have poor tech help and its yours. Enough Said.

I've used FAST on race cars - nothing cheap about that.
If you have to have injection i have experience with those proflow systems and they are pretty good and inexpensive. Somehwere on the hamb i believe i posted of a before and after dyno test where i pulled a carb i had tuned and replaced it with the proflow injector and right out of the box it made almost as much hp as the carb so i was very impressed. It took another couple months of tweeking with a laptop to get it right. I much prefer to adjusting with a screwdriver but if you like messing with a laptop then go for it.

I know someone who used the MSD system, probably the most inexpensive. Took sometime and effort to work out the kinks, but after that about as reliable as you can get. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MLtdWTwJPVo

Electronic FI is not traditional but it makes live much easier if you have huge temp swings like here in Michigan. I have used the holley TBI system and have had good and bad experiance. An old system(first gen projection system) was a bunch of problems on my 350 Mecruiser in my boat (no not a big car an actual boat)

I put a new projection system on my friends mud truck with a big block and that thing runs better than the carb he had on it.

I'm working on a system for my blown Hemi that looks like an old mechanical system but has the computer to keep the fuel and ignition timing dead on. The only reason I'm going this way is because I do not want the fuel going to lean with timing to advanced under boost and melting down the engine. This system is not an out of the box system and will be controlled with a Megatune computer that is tuned with a laptop.

Here is a link to a good TBI system: http://www.diyautotune.com/tech_articles/megasquirt-carb-to-efi-part1-nova.htm

    Traditional aside
FAST is an outstanding product and deal IMO

The one im involved w ( on a BBC) was perfect / turn key right out of the box.
It Solved all the problems we were having with the inexpensive TBI setup we had been fighting for over a year.

  8. easy starts, temp changes and altitude changes are the reason I am looking at FI for the 472 Cadillac. We criss cross the Rockies a lot on our vacation and FI compensates for the altitude and temp changes also a system that works right will help with Eng longevity (no fuel dilution)
I know its not traditional but some time new technology help us enjoy the rid more

I have a FAST XFI 2.0 system. It is my second EFI.

I'm not sure what kind of information you are looking for......

Is it expensive? Yes...but then this is an expensive hobby.

What I like about it is the tune-ability, and like a modern vehicle your old car will run well all the time - it doesn't change over time or with the weather. I also like that my exhaust is not smelly....I have yet to own or drive a carb'd vehicle that doesn't leave my clothes smelly after a drive. That alone makes it worthwhile for me.

There is an excellent support site for FAST run by Comp Cams, who owns FAST. If you have an issue there are some very knowledgeable guys who will help you, free, provided you have manners.

I also like that the components they provide are high quality....the wiring harnesses are top notch in terms of the wire and connectors and all of the other pieces are OEM quality as a minimum, or better.

Where is in River Oaks Texas? I don't suppose that is the River Oaks in Houston?

I know a lot about factory systems worked on Cadillac for 10 years

there's lots of systems on the market and the fast system was the one that caught my eyes as probably the best add on

was looking for others that have used difrent systems to make a good choice

even thought about getting a system off a 500 Cadillac and seeing if i could get an ecu re flashed

I thought if you were close you could drive mine to see how it ran.

Spend some time on this site...you can get a feel for what guys are discussing. I'll say this - 99.9% of the problems are related to the owner not knowing what to do with the software.

I think there is a FAST tuner who lives in Dallas, I don't recall his name. It's probably money well spent to hire him for a day to get the system tuned in properly. You CAN set up one of these systems out yourself, but sometimes time is money.

If there is a better system I am unaware of it. That said, I personally would avoid the EZ system they sell. It's cheaper but more limited and it seems like I read of a lot of gremlins with it.

I haven't had time to really get my car in perfect tune due to other projects, but it's really an impressive system that is well thought out. It also has a few add-on functions that are useful. For example, my trans has an electrically activated OD and lockup converter and I use the FAST to control those functions instead oft he old toggle switch method.

Tracy at Fuel Injection Specialties in San Antonio is a good FAST system tuner but barely expensive.

Don't know. A couple months ago I asked if anyone used one of the "electronic" stack systems out there or the MOONEYES six pack looking "electronic" system and got shut down. Apparently electronic fuel injection is not traditional enough, even though someone said it was offered in the 50's by the big three.

It's too bad, seems like most of the replies were positive.

Hopefully they won't kill your thread.

I have used the Holly pro-jection a couple times. if you buy a used set up make sure you get the digital box and not the old analogue. Have had them running for a few years, one had a tip in throttle issue and a simple ohm check of the throttle position sensor revealed the failure. Called Holly, ordered the part, 2 days later installed it and back on the road. I have another system that i will be installing either on the 50 Burb or a 72 Swinger 318 for my wife.

Neither apparently is Jag IRS which was invented in 1957 and in use from around '64 on in hot rods....

Having owned a Fuel Injection company, we used only FAST on Weber flange compatible IDA, DCOE, DCNF style throttle bodies. We looked at and evaluated everything on the market and nothing could touch FAST. BDS - Blower Drive Service is not a longtime FAST distributor for nothing either. Craig knows his shit. Bite the bullet and spend the money for a hassle free and quality system - really, it'll save you a lot of possible heartache.

I am running a Microsquirt from DIYautotune. The computer and an eight ft wiring harness(I think it was 8 ft anyway) was reasonably priced @ $369. My son is pretty good at tuning so I can't speak to that part.

You will have to furnish the injectors and sensors yourself, along with the connectors for the injectors and sensors.

The packaging of the system is easy too. It is about the size of a Pack of Cigarettes.

I love this stuff but Ryan has made it very clear....we're a traditional site for traditional cars, hotrods and customs. Modern electronics definetely has a place in hotrodding but it's just not here...closing this thread down...
